Should we leave the Big Ten?

First of all, I know we won’t.

I do wonder, though, if NU would be better off in a conference of similar universities like Stanford, Cal, Vandy, Duke, BC, UVa, etc. instead of this professional sports league that the Big Ten has become.

It would be nice to have a level playing field, to have a reasonable size conference where we could play the same teams every year, and to potentially have a strong independent governing body that actually enforces true NIL, academic, and ethical standards (i.e. pay for the value of NIL rights rather than the current pay-for-play free for all that “NIL” has become).

Anyone else just completely disinterested in the new Big Ten monstrosity?

Sherrone Moore

Moore has an impressive background; known as an outstanding recruiter. Strong ties to the Midwest. I feel like his background is a bit more impressive than Hartline. I like the fact that he’s been through a few different programs. I’d be a bit concerned that all Hartline knows is Ohio State.

Were Stanford and Cal Looking to move?

I don't see much conversation in the national press about Stanford's and Cal's situation other than it isn't good and the TV gods weren't impressed with the number of eyeballs they would bring. It appears Oregon and Washington were actively lobbying but how about Stanford and Cal? What is their story going forward?

Which brings me to TV money being the driver of change. I get more money is better than less but why is a $40 mil delta, let's say, between TV packages such a driver of behavior to cause schools such as FSU to behave so badly towards their current partners? For a school like Stanford that's a phone call to a tech alum. I know they are the exception but in today's inflated world $40 mil isn't what it use to be. I think it is more about ego and exposure than pure dollars. The school alums are competing for recruits, alums and the highest TV contract.

I do think TV money allows teams to spend relatively indiscriminately - coaches and facilities - whereas when the money comes from normal sources - fees and say, state funding - the expenditures are watched more closely. I guess that's the answer to my question.

FB RECRUITING In the extension of diversity Schill should decree...

that NU may offer any female or male athlete that is offered by any other B1G institution. Create a totally equal playing field for our highly mismanaged Athletic Department. We MUST be fair to those who are highly skilled in one of the seven identified intelligences NU chooses to ignore: extreme athleticism. I'm totally serious about this statement. Oregon did it while he was there, the osu does it, michicken does it, and so should we!

Poach Jake Dickert

And I' m not talking about an eggs benedict.

Played at Wisconsin Stevens Point and then a GA.

Head coach now at WSU - presumably out of the P2.5 (B1G/SEC and big 12).

We should fire Gragg and tell Braun his is a one year gig.

Hire Dickert. Bring him back to the midwest. He knows how it is to recruit and coach against the giants (SC/Oregon/Washington). I think he'd be tremendous for NU.
