Game was over when Nicholson Broke his foot

Even then, I think the best the ‘Cats could have done was maybe keep it inside double digits. I don’t think they were that terrible, UConn is just that good. At full strength, playing their best ball (like in West Lafayette), they may have had a shot at the end to beat the defending (and...

March Madness Game Thread: Northwestern vs. UConn

Every team has calls go for and against them, but across the board, I wholeheartedly agree. Traditionally, tournament officiating is MUCH better than we’ve seen so far. It’s relative of what we’ve seen since November. I don’t know what it is about this season, but I can’t figure out why the...

    Collins reference

More on Earl Walton. All officials make mistakes and should be cut some slack, but I do remember the Big East game being referenced in this article. It was a real whopper. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/news/story?id=6207902

I agree. There was quite a bit of nonsense in Piscataway, New Jersey this evening.

    Collins reference

Back in March 2016, after the ‘Cats were eliminated from the BTT at the hands of Michigan in overtime, Chris Collins alluded to several (blown) calls going against NU. One call, in particular, should have given the ‘Cats an opportunity to win the game in the closing seconds. Chris attributed...

    Hard to beat the refs.

I saw the side views you mentioned, but thought I saw a hand on the ball on the overhead shot on the broadcast view. Just rewatched several times and yeah, I agree with you and the others that it was the contact wedged it. I will still contend Matt didn’t get his legs completely into the take...

    Hard to beat the refs.

There was contact that should have been called no doubt, but it looked to me that the Wisconsin defender got his hand on the ball to wedge it. Again, the Badger was late and clearly fouled, but that’s a play that can be finished by Matt. BIG post play has always been a rough place.

    Hard to beat the refs.

Sounds like we mostly agree outside of “the visiting team won’t get the calls”. And for the record, Matt was clearly fouled as you pointed out. I just have watched enough NU basketball to know that call isn’t one the ‘Cats will often get in Madison, especially when the take to the hole wasn’t...

    Hard to beat the refs.

The ‘Cats play a more aggressive defensive Wisconsin, without a doubt. Rhoads now has Penn State leaning into the press so I agree with you there. Michigan State just has great athletes. Nothing particularly aggressive about that. The ‘Cats consistently trap the post and jump passing lanes...

    Hard to beat the refs.

It’s always been like that. And let’s not overlook that the ‘Cats play a very aggressive trapping style of defense. That naturally will lead to more infractions, especially as the staff has tried to replicate last season’s approach without their two stalwarts in Audige and Beran. It’s an...

    Hard to beat the refs.

Yep. In the final minutes of conference play you have to go strong to the hoop. Berry was aggressive when he got his “and 1” during a prior sequence.

    Hard to beat the refs.

I don’t know about that. While I’m unsure sure of what constitutes a charge in 2024 and I thought it was pretty clear the ball went off Wahl at the end, the rest of the issues are just playing on the road in the BIG. Foul discrepancies are part of the deal. Now that the NU actually gets the...

Are the Lions going to win the NFC North?

Fair enough. Most everyone. Just take the gift. As a Bears fan I know the Lions were screwed on the Calvin Johnson “didn’t complete the process” garbage in 2011. Detroit should have won that game, just like last night. The bigger issue is that NFL continues to allow this nonsense to happen...

Are the Lions going to win the NFC North?

I’m arguing the officials screwed the Lions out of a win on a clerical error of their own making, just like every non-Cowboys fan that watches NFL football and viewed that abomination. FWIW, I don’t cheer for either team or any of the four impacted by this massive mistake from Brad Allen’s crew.

Are the Lions going to win the NFC North?

Of course it does. That’s the point. The official screwed the Lions by not announcing the player who actually declared as eligible. A clerical error on the part of Brad Allen may have changed four of the top five seeds in the NFC playoff picture. That’s bonkers. Feral, I assume you are Cowboy...

Are the Lions going to win the NFC North?

Dallas had defenders to Decker’s side that got sucked up by the fake from Goff. Look at their reactions after the play. They knew they bit and left Decker (68) wide open. The announcement didn’t impact anything because 70 (Skipper) wasn’t drawing any real attention from the defense. Again, he...

Are the Lions going to win the NFC North?

68 reported. There’s photos of him talking to the ref. This was not only confirmed by several Lions including (Decker, 68), but Dan Campbell told the crew that 68 was going to report prior on this play prior to the game. The ref said 70 was eligible even though he never reported probably because...

Are the Lions going to win the NFC North?

Incorrect. It is the offical’s job to pay attention and do their job and not assume. The player reporting as eligible still has to line up properly and repeatedly yelling at the ref draws attention to themselves and would distract them from doing their own job and ultimately defeat the purpose...

    Matt Painter

I agree that they struggle with it at times, but I can’t say I’m surprised. Changing priorities/styles at the professional level as well as the increased influence of the AAU circuit has made feeding the post to traditional big man a thing of the past. Hard to blame young players for not...

    Sour grapes…

“Northwestern is not a particularly good team, they’re okay” This guy is the worst. But he does generate content for Purdue basketball fans. Know your market and what not.
