And Pete Nance is listed at 6' 10" and 210 lbs....thought he'd be listed at 6' 9"

Miller Kopp is 6' 7" and 210 lbs.

Greer is listed at 6' 2"....source of a lot questions.

Ryan Young 6' 10" and 235 lbs.

Ladies and gents, it looks like an impressive roster. If a couple of the freshman show up as contributors in conference games it could be a very exciting year.

6' 10" and he likes to play point forward. Ya know....your typical NU recruit.

the way I figure it....so few fans will fit into the new Welsh Ryan that the fan/player ratio is just about perfect....maybe a little heavy players

Let's pump the brakes a bit on Pete. I believe this young fella will be
a quality B1G 10 guy but needs a bit of development which I believe
our staff will do well with.....

The excitement is that Pete Nance was arguably the highest rated recruit in NU's history and his dad was a NBA all-star and the first NBA slam dunk champion. His brother is a key player on the Cavs right now and Pete accomplished a lot in high school. So there is good reason and a basis to be excited about his skills. If Falzon does not improve from last year's performance, I feel a lot more confident in having Nance ready to go behind him. Yes, he will be a freshman and needs to fill out, but his athleticism should be a much higher level than previously seen at NU at 6'10" and at the PF position.

Nance's needed development goes beyond filling out and getting experience. That's precisely what I have been saying for months now and what Haywood effectively confirmed. If Falzon needs to sit, I doubt Nance will be the first choice this year to replace him.

The "must have" frosh contribution is at lead guard....NU needs Greer to be effective 20+ minutes a game in order to compete in the Big Ten. Beyond that, contributions from any of the other three would be gravy.

With that said, we've been told that Kopp is ready to play for months and months. So, will be interesting to see if Kopp gets similarly large minutes.

IMO, Ash will play more minutes than last year and they will be more effective minutes. He'll be better on offense.

I guess I will never get this board's discussion about Falzon so I'll leave it that right now he looks much healthier than last year and he'll be part of primary 3/4 rotation.

NU wasn't that great form distance last year...Taylor, Law, Turner, Falzon, Kopp, Greer (around 50%) will make them pretty good. Much better at wing and forward should really open it up for Pardon.

Over at the Iowa board they are discussing the conference and there looks to be consensus that NU will be top 4/5 in conference.

Wow. While it's possible we could be top 4-5 in conference next year, given the questions at PG I have a veerrrry hard time thinking that we should be a consensus top 4-5 in conference team. I think we are amongst the big group in the muddled middle, and it could flex a fair amount in either direction depending on how the team gels and whether we find strong leadership at the PG position.

“I think he’s good enough to help,” Collins said. “I wouldn’t put it past him to carve out a niche.”

Not exactly a ringing endorsement......

I'd rather see this than the hyperbole the coaches put out about Vic Law which made is frosh campaign exponentially more difficult.

The tidbit in the story about Ash having off-season surgery was news to me. Maybe I just missed that before.

Sounds like Greer will come off the bench and Ryan Taylor will approach his top-of-the-nation usage rate at Evansville ...

I have Wrassler on Ignore. That might explain it—and my relative sanity.

Me too. His repetitive rants just got too tiresome. A shame, because I enjoy reading the thoughts of practically everyone on the board. Half as much Wrassler would be twice as good. But when he goes on a compulsive tear, it's too much.

I may as well take this opportunity to wish all a happy and safe 4th of July.

Same to you.

Wrassler is the only poster on here I have on ignore. I tried on Mystic too but forgot how to do it.

Nance is the Ohio Division II Player of the Year, led his team to a championship, is NU’s highest rated prospect in the past 25 years and some posters have him third string at PF. Are you kidding me?

Ryan Young who is a late bloomer who is much lower rated is the backup PF? I think not. A.J. Turner who is a SF is now the backup PF? Not!

My guess is Pete Nance will all start the season as the backup PF and if Falzon struggles his minutes will increase. Nance’s length and athleticism at 6’10” has not been seen at NU. I am sure Collins and Donlon will find some minutes for him right off the bat.

Agreed! I think Nance will be a big contributor this year.

Nick Fruendt was a higher rated recruit than John Shurna. How did that work out?

Larry Nance was a NBA all-star who at his peak was averaging 20 ppg and was a slam dunk champion and his brother is a NBA player. Pete Nance’s family background in basketball is a little different than Nick F. or
Shurna. Pete Nance accomplished a ton in high school. UM whose coaching staff is a pretty good evaluator of talent wanted Pete and offered him. That shows me a lot. Is he a finished product? Maybe not, but he has more skills than most guys on the team.

Interesting topic. I think our two transfers get 20 minutes each. I just see no way, Gaines gets more than five minutes a game. O don't see Nance being a factor yet!

Kid looks pretty smooth to me. He’ll get minutes strictly on his passing and shot blocking abilities.

I think Jordan Ash and Anthony Gaines will play PG as more off ball roles while Ryan Taylor and Vic Law will take the majority of the playmaking. Its great defensively and takes away the uncertainty Greer will have. I dont think Collins will give a freshman PG heavy minutes to learn on the job when he wants to give his seniors a good season this time around.

The issue with Ash is that he hasn't played any competitive ball since he was injured at the end of last season (per Teddy's Trib article last week, he won't be cleared for contact until the fall). Therefore, he probably won't have improved his game any, and may even be rusty at the start of the season. I think minutes at lead guard are completely up for grabs at this point.

Do you think there is any chance they try to shirt him? I was one that thought he would be starting by B1G season, but now y’all have me rethinking.

I think there is zero chance of that. He will be a regular feature of the front court rotation.

Man! A 6-10 kid hitting step-back jumpers in high school. How can we not be salivating about this kid coming in.

Yeah, if he can shoot, stay healthy, and not get totally lost on defense, he's going to play. But the last thing is hard for any freshman.
