We know that he was hurt at some point during the season. Man, I hope this is what he is like when he is healthy! The best was when BU spent most of one time out discussing A.J.. Who would have preeicted that pregame?

We will need a guard, but we have some weapons. Love Koop, Nance has potential, AJ, and Benson is showing some confidence. I wonder if Falzone is a missing piece that will return?

I would like to see Falzon come back. His defense was really solid this year, light years better than before. His shot was erratic but with him you're never surprised when it drops.

I believe he was honored at senior day and Haywood had previously hinted this season will mark the end of his tenure at NU.

Well if that's the case I wish him the best and have enjoyed watching him play, particularly when he helped us beat IU several weeks ago after not even seeing him play for most of the year. That is his all-time highlight.

Looks good!

Here's one silver lining from this dismal year: Not having a true point guard forced Turner and Gaines to handle the ball more than they would have. They both showed an ability to drive to the hoop and score or get fouled.

And that was pretty horrible basketball if I recall correctly.

The difference is that we'll have a solid nucleus with Gaines, Turner, and Kopp. I feel Nance and Greer are still work in progress, and Benson is who he is. Ryan Young and Jared Jones need to help out Benson, while hoping that Beran and Buie go up the learning curve quickly.

if that is the current recipe at NU with the stringent academic admissions and awful history compared to peer institutions. i will take 4 down/rebuilding years to 1 tourney year. (note that is not my long term expectations) but i will take that for now until we are established with a new arena and practice facility.

the key will be having good 2020/2021 classes to follow nance/kopp & beran, jones, buie

if CCC and staff can do that (which is a very strong possibility) - the next 5-6 years will project better than following tourney year plus the next 2

The nucleus may well be solid. But I am not expecting much from a team of predominantly Freshmen and Sophomores. Turner will be the only Senior who I think can be good. Gaines will be a Junior. That's not a recipe for success in the B1G. NU will take their lumps in 2019-20. Hopefully better days come in 2020-21.

I would add that Kopp is going to be a pretty experienced soph who was showing a lot of confidence towards the end of the season. So I feel Turner-Gaines-Kopp are solid veterans. Unfortunately, I think Nance needs another year, and then maybe we can see him blossom as a junior. Same for Greer.

Kopp came on strong at the end of the year (similar to Gaines last year) and I expect him to take a significant step next year. Turner also found his place in the last few games and I expect more out of him than this year. Law was not himself for much of this year as his knee never really got a chance to heal but it also means replacing him will not be as difficult as it looked earlier in the year.

Nance and Greer will very likely take a step up but we will have to wait and see how far they progress. (the improvement between Frosh and Soph can be pretty sizable. We will miss Pardon the most but Young might have something to say about that.

How much of an impact with the Frosh make? Will there be any Grad or other Transfers? With they have the Freedom that the Law, Bmac class had when they started?

Just saying I do not see next year as the disaster than many here do. Not sure that means a tourney bid but we could get to NIT level or better.

Largest improvement is between Frosh and Soph so I see bigger improvements for Nance and Greer than you think. THey will have a year in weight room and have a much better idea what they have to work on. Having a PG of any kind ready to take on 35 mpg would make a huge difference. Nance is one of the more talented guys we have brought in so I can see him improving quite a bit. The center position I am less sure about.

Jones will be interesting.. Recently CCC has gone for more stretch 4s than solid 4s. I am not sure that works as well in BIG as it might in ACC. And Jones might allow that issue to be addressed

I hope you are right. Recruiting the 2020 and 2021 classes will make or break Collins's time here. I don't have close to your insight as far as which guys NU has a good chance at getting, but I like to hear you say it's a strong possibility.

What to make, then, of this quote from the Trib's post-game story?

Three-point specialist Aaron Falzon might return for a fifth season, saying he needs to talk with family members and coach Chris Collins before deciding. “It’s wide open,” he said. “I have no idea.”

that he is not going to say in the paper "im done and not coming back" ?

And the point of that would be what? at this stage, why be coy? This is not a rhetorical question.

I'm not doubting the possibility that your info is sound, but if the decision already has been made--as you are saying--it strikes me as pretty disingenuous that he is choosing to publicly say "it's wide open."

starting the next generation for CCC and staff. happened with bmac, SL, VL, DP getting the majority of minutes with lumpkin.

2014-15, Collins’ second year, the team returned Cobb, Olah, Demps and Sobolewski as well as Lumpkin. Lindsey, Law and BMac broke in, and Pardon came in the next year. I really think next year will be a deeper plunge in cold water.

Do you know what and when AJ was hurt with? Did CC say that in a post game presser?

Without knowing what the injury was, his play dipped terribly starting around the win at Rutgers and lasted 9 games until the home game against Wisconsin. During that stretch, Turner was -79 when the team was -53 while playing only 62% of minutes. Since then, Turner was +9 when the team was -22 while playing 70% of minutes. If the latter stretch is representative of Turner's true level of play, that will be a big boost for next season.

I had heard that there was a possibility of him coming back regardless of Sr day from several sources. I don't think it is decided. A lot might depend on what role and minutes CCC sees him as getting and his minutes over the last few games might be an indication. He was much more sound defensively than he was in the past and that might be a determining factor in the role CCC sees for him. Also might depend on any grad transfer CCC is able to bring in. Do I see him coming back for 5mpg? No but for 20? Likely. He also offers Sr leadership that for the most part we will not have. And it is not like we do not have the open scholly.
