Another QB fail. Now what?

Twitter tells me that NU has just offered 2022 QB Jack Lausch out of Brother Rice, the Sun-Times player of the year. I understood that he’s a longtime Notre Dame football and baseball commit. What’s up with that? (Forgive me if this news is already Rock material, but Yahoo won’t let me subscribe — customer service is not their strong suit).
He’s received a partial baseball scholarship at ND. He’d be crazy not to take NUFB’s offer. I have a buddy who’s a Brother Rice alum, will ask him what he thinks.

Y’all are really missing the other boards. The Purplen Koolaid Klique are really on their game. They have a ND walk on coming into NU as the return of the Savior. This kid, who has yet to acknowledge an offer, let alone commit, is being paraded by the corbi crew as six star potential - the diamond that absolutely nobody else discovered. Well, except ND - and they offered a PWO spot.

Oh, and if you disagree, you get the classic gcg insults and one word posts (I really want to play scrabble against the guy some day) along with coral and corbi telling how little you know about football and what an idiot you are.

You have to pay to read this stuff but it’s great. Most of us are simply blind and stupid. Luckily corbi and coral can tell us how it really is.

Oh, and one guy is actually trying calm, ration reason to find evidence of humanity and brain activity within corbi. Classic fail, of course.
You should be writing scripts for All My Children or The Bachelorette. The fictional good guy - bad guy drama is palpable.

GOUNUII

Yep, that idea puts NU near the bottom of the conference.
"Near" is better than "at".

Now that I've had a week or so for the adrenaline to wear off (or the grief cycle shock denial anger etc)...my prediction. 2022 will be a little better but not great. I think our wins will range between zero and 6. Yes, we could go 0-12, our noncon opponents Miami Hydroxide and Southern Ill are better than OU and ISU, respectively. But - we probably won't go 0-12. We need a lot of improvement but especially at QB and Front Seven. I think Hilinski will either get better or get beaten out, and, after a Winter of our Discontent, I have a shred of remaining faith that Fitz will do something to fix the defense. He can't be so stubborn that he will just let 2021 happen again. But I can't see any way that we actually compete in the West, even with everyone else's super seniors leaving.

As Dr. Seuss said "this mess is to big and so deep and so tall, we cannot pick it up, there is no way at all"

As a short yardage specialist/wildcat back/maybe even motioning to receiver, I think he could be a real contributor, almost immediately.

Who needs a cannon for an arm when they are standing first and goal at the two yard line, and are more likely to run, anyway?

Seems like Northwestern is a great fit for Lausch. Knowing absolutely nothing, I’d imagine he’ll probably come to NU. (It reads as if football is a higher priority. I don’t know if NU would let a QB sit out or part-time spring practice. Maybe The Rock does.)

From his coach:
“If there is a school that comes and says, ‘We need a quarterback,’ and it is a high academic school with a great program, he’s going to consider that,” Badke said. “Obviously, Notre Dame is Notre Dame. But if someone says we have a football scholarship, he’s going to listen. It has to be the right fit, though.”

Also, he sounds like a ‘late riser’, and a guy who relies on his legs to be most effective. Not ideal situation, of course, but I’d much rather take a flier on a guy than leave the position empty.

Sounds like a reliable depth Marty type down the road even if things don't work out.

NU baseball relied on FB players to field a team when I played. Many were motivated by missing Spring ball , but they were good players

ND football visited Brother Rice today, presumably to keep the hard sell on Lausch. A friend close to the situation says he’d be shocked if Lausch takes the NU offer, and thinks ND might be promising a schollie after one year as a PWO. Tough to pry those Southside Catholics away from ND.

Perfect, let’s just have an open tryout.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Im cautiously optimistic w this kid. He played in a big conference and made crazy incredible plays that felt like he just willed into the endzone or past the sticks. He definitely has "It" and plus I dont mind going back to just recruiting tough football players instead of 5 star QBs who NEVER put their body on the line to pick up that extra yard for a first down (marty excepted). Loved watching Persa, Baz, or even CJs running TD where he needed an OL to pick him up off the ground. Its called football and I havent seen it on this "technique, lets be careful" team.

I also think Riley Lees would have been a helluva college QB for us but being a wr in this awful scheme is sad.

That was freakin hilarious. You must have had extra time?

Evanston is closer to Hoover, Alabama, than Hoover is to either College Park, Md., or wherever ASU is. Bummer.

If he's sent a "good get" tweet for NU this portal, I must've missed it. Kinda Hilinski-esque resume. Decent 2019 while losing.

His dad is so loaded that a $400-500k scholarship is no object? What’s his net worth and income?

Partner at Kirkland and Ellis for a long time, now US attorney for the Chicago area. Wouldn’t say “no object,” but imagine they’re doing fine financially.

Interesting. How much do partners there typically make, and how long was he a partner? Do we know if he lived within his means and invested wisely, as high income does not necessarily equate to high net worth as a lot of people spend too much? Does he have any siblings that the parents will also have to put through college?

I imagine US Attorney’s make much less than what he was accustomed to.

If he was an equity partner at Kirkland then he was pulling down on the order of $2-3MM/year, maybe more. If he was a non-equity partner, $500-800k/year.

They’re absolutely fine.

I need a guide to which of the posters here were up crazy last year and are down crazy this year and are just NFL style short term talk radio influenced fans vs which ones are down on the team where we’re good and even more down where we’re bad and are just negative Nancys.

I’m so confused by you.
I try to be as objective as possible. I give Fitz every benefit of the doubt I think he's earned, but I also have to acknowledge the reality of what we saw this year.

Yesterday you're throwing out Seinfeld quotes, today The Simpsons. Nice.
