Mainly talks about the 2024 season, Lujans second year and the 2025 class!
Haha. I like Collins better than Braun. Braun is just morphing into Fitz politician coach speak.Shocker.
Yeah he really seemed unprepared and stumbled a lot.Not much here.
Ryan will upgrade soon.Yeah he really seemed unprepared and stumbled a lot.
How so?
Yes, but...who do they bring in??? Braun is a nice guy, but limited. Seems like Jackson is radio silence, so who knows......The theory is that Ryan/Jackson will force out Braun after 2025 unless we have a strong year. I’m not sure I buy it.
Anyone we want. We are rich, in the B1G, will be moving into the most expensive stadium in CFB history, etc. But don’t quit on Braun. I’m still a believer.Yes, but...who do they bring in??? Braun is a nice guy, but limited. Seems like Jackson is radio silence, so who knows......

Put the Kool aid down. The limitations associated with the NU job will not be of interest to many coaches, new stadium or not.Anyone we want. We are rich, in the B1G, will be moving into the most expensive stadium in CFB history, etc. But don’t quit on Braun. I’m still a believer.
I tend to agree, many hurdles other schools don't have.Put the Kool aid down. The limitations associated with the NU job will not be of interest to many coaches, new stadium or not.
i will say having Jackson instead of Gragg as AD will "help" a bit.I tend to agree, many hurdles other schools don't have.

The first rule of being an AD is to do no harm. Gragg managed to do harm by doing nothingi will say having Jackson instead of Gragg as AD will "help" a bit.
I think he did a ton of harm, the worst possible hire in one of the most critical times. The first rule of being an AD is to do no harm. Gragg managed to do harm by doing nothing

I thought the same thing. Premature balding and dead of winter pale doesn't help. He pretty much has exhausted the same coach speak approach. Would do well to open up a bit and show a little more personality.
Exhausted? Maybe he picked up a bug while out on the recruiting trail. There is literally no off-season for a P4 head coach. Not an easy position.
Hit the nail right on the head. It’s like someone told him to morph into Fitz. At the beginning of his career he was less politician like. Needs to watch a Chris Collins press conference.Couldn't agree more. Just stating how he appeared. Relative to what he said, I was trying to say that he is continuing to take the same approach to the media he has taken since his hire. He approaches his public appearances much like Fitz did. For me, that is boring. Couple that with having what appears to be one of the least informative approaches to the media in the Big Ten. With Fitz I gave up. With Braun it would be nice if he loosened up a little but I am not holding my breath. It is what it is.
What was the talking point? My brother has had extensive media training and done a lot of media himself. He tells me no matter the question, deliver your talking point. When they ask a second question, deliver it again. Your point is the only thing you want quoted. Boring but effective for the wider public that only picks up on snatches of things.
Of course our academic restrictions are going to take some coaches out of the mix, if Braun is let go following next season, but money talks and we can put up some big dollars that other state schools can’t do (outside of OSU, UM, Oregon and maybe Penn State).Put the Kool aid down. Yes. I would say we've always been a developmental coaching program also. The Notre Dame poaching began with Ara.How long have you been a Northwestern fan? What about this University makes you think that all of a sudden the school is going to put such a premium on football that they'd be willing to pay top of the market dollars to convince high priced coaching talent to ignore the limitations academics put on recruiting and to ignore the fact that we have such a small fan/alumni base that filling a 35,000 stadium with our own fans is a challenge from week to week? I don't think you've thought this out very well.
Coaches who want to coach at a school that is all about football and winning at all costs don’t come to NU. The values of the University are not compatible.Yes. I would say we've always been a developmental coaching program also. The Notre Dame poaching began with Ara.
I agree, however, Dennis Green got to the NFL, and even Rick Venturi, where winning is, of course, everything.Coaches who want to coach at a school that is all about football and winning at all costs don’t come to NU. The values of the University are not compatible.
Fitz had a pretty lucrative contract. That mid-level B1G money would get us a very good coach (I still have hopes for Braun). That, plus the facilities, a supposed NIL boost (see portal this winter) reasonable expectations from fans and administration (i.e. average 6-7 wins a year and you're safe for life), makes it a good spot. How long have you been a Northwestern fan? I think you are right that higher level coaches won't come here. I believe there will be money enough to attract and retain a middle tier B1G coach and staff. (And players). Notwithstanding our internal dirty laundry with fitz gagg and shill, I think it will simply be harder to be top tier in this 18 team league. But we can consistently be middle of pack because we will have some (not complere) structural advantages over most teams not in P2.This is classic “NU fan talking themselves into NU being a destination” work here. Yes it helps that there are only so many jobs to go around in the B1G and SEC, but almost all coaches with other options will choose to either (I) wait out another, better option given the administrative headaches that are structural to NU or (II) insist on getting PAAIIIIIDDDDDD to ignore aforementioned administrative headaches to the point where NU is unwilling to make that outlay.

Tl,dr we will have as much or more money than most non P2 schools and will complete if managed appropriately
Possibly. I'm hearing a lot of "woe is me" from non P2 fans but anyway that doesn't help if we are down around 16th in FB and BB.My point is that I think you’re significantly over-valuing NU’s “structural advantages.”
