As I reflect on last night's game, I think Prairie View A&M gave us a sterner test than IU.
Buie lowered his shoulder into Trey and shoved off. Player control foul. You are a hoot. Really. You are not so sure about the goaltending (which was crystal clear by the way and resulted in a 5 point swing) and “there are bad calls in every game” but this was an abortion of the rules. I have watched it several times now and can’t tell if the defender’s torso is facing the opponent or if Buie pushed off. He’s allowed to turn his shoulder to the basket. It’s a tough call and one that I don’t think they should make at the end of a game unless it’s crystal clear like the goaltending.
I don’t represent them. You embarassed your fellow NU grads.
It was low once he lowered the shoulder.Love the certitude, but Boo's entire body was low, so he didn't lower his shoulder.
lolDon Daily worked last night's game. He has worked 45 games this season since the beginning of B1G conference play. 11 of them were B1G conference games, 4 involving Indiana. Before last night's game his most recent B1G game was 1/22.
That's all I was allowed to see before hitting the paywall. I can continue doing your research and I'm very good, but I'm also very expensive.
Eh stop whining on a NU message board. 2-0. Sorry your program sunk so low it lost to a team who’s only ever made the tournament once.It was low once he lowered the shoulder.
An understanding of the rules combimed with just a shred of objectivity goes a long way
How does a nerd bully? With a hostile takeover. If they insist Boo Buie pushed off on the last shot, are they blind to the fact that the IU player defending him could have been called for a blocking foul as well? It looked to me that Boo lowered his shoulder into him when he wasn't set. That's not an offensive foul at all. If anything, refs should have awarded Boo the and-1, which would have driven the IU fans even more apopleptic. 😂
Bask in their tears, Wildcats fans. Like every other entitled Big Ten fanbase, they expected lowly Northwestern to roll over and the refs to sniff their faded glamor program jocks. I am loving every tweet and post whining about the officiating, how the Cats foul every play, and how all Northwestern students and alumni are nerds. Which is it, are we bullies or nerds? Both, I guess! I was going to tweet how IU only had so many fans in the stands because they are the receptacle institution for all of Chicagoland's UIUC rejects, but thought the better of it. 🤷♂️
The irony is not lost on us....a shred of objectivity goes a long way
Best on-ball defender on the team and can get to rim effectively. Allows Trey to do what Trey does best...come off the bench as a spark. The same X that IU fans have bitched about constantly over 2 years because of his constant turning over of the ball and all of his perceived deficiencies? Now he's the missing piece?
I was banned after one comment that NU is fine without Kopp because Kopp never played defense and NU has other guys who can stand and chuck it.And to think a poster from this board went to IU’s board to apologize on behalf of *our* fanbase. Sad!
Miller Kopp
To Miller Kopp, the Kopp family, IU fans, I personally wish to apologize for the sophomoric, lewd, and frankly classless behavior our Northwestern students showed to you, tonight. Miller, you gave us three great years at Northwestern. You did not deserve the terrible chants uttered by our...indiana.forums.rivals.com
Now how I (or the announcers) saw it live. There will be no announcement from the conference that the officials missed the call. And as you stated in your only insightful comment, “there are bad calls in every game”. Or is this one of those insidious calls that will cause IU to get beat by St. Mary's by 40 points again in the tournament? I get confused.Buie lowered his shoulder into Trey and shoved off. Player control foul.
Where have I been less than gracious?God, this reminds me so much of the saltiness of the LA fans when the Pistons beat them in the finals during the Ben Wallace era. They had a million excuses why they lost in 5, whined about the refs and the physical play.
I get that you don't like that a team forced you to play a more physical game than you would have liked. Frankly, the adjustments in the second half were great, five more minutes in the game and we're toast. The inability to just accept the L with grace is delicious though.
Wrap your whining in sanctimony if it makes you feel better, the salt remains as delicious either way. My dinner thanks you in advance for the seasoningWhere have I been less than gracious?
I never whined or stated that the officiating cost IU the game...not once.
IU and NU's tenacious D cost IU the game. IU failed to match it.
I have been complimentary of the NU team, didn't blame all NU fans for the vulgarity, stated my concerns for all BIG teams in the dance and tried to help some here with low BBIQ levels to more objectively understand what they were looking at.
I will leave you all to your thoughts.
Good luck the rest of the season, I will be in Chi for the BTT and look forward to meeting some good NU fans.

I was on the G”town medical staff and have posted this before. G’town used their entire roster and played suffocating full court defense. Teams became frustrated and the Hoyas were labeled as being thugs, when it was simply that their opponents could not stand the unrelenting pressure. The Georgetown players were polite and much different than their media persona., including Michael Graham, an intimidating player..I love that NU is getting a defensive personality. That is a skill that translates every year, every game, every player, every recruit. I remember when John Thompson started coaching at Georgetown and implemented suffocating defense by excellent athletes. Teams just could not handle it as it embarrassed them.

Don’t you see? He is here to educate us because we obviously do not understand the game as well as he does. How could we? We are just lowly NU grads who just don’t understand the subtleties of the game. And, of course, the refs must be educated also. All the poor uneducated people outside of Indiana are just ruining the experience for the well educated Indiana fans. But of course we are just bias and cannot see the conspiracy.Usually visiting fans only come over here to troll if they beat us, so this new.
Oh, maybe he's here because of the "moral victory" cuz of the refs and all!
I think because if you determine it was goaltending the ball should be taken out of bounds, which can’t happen after the fact. Nothing changes with changing a 2 to a 3.Serious question.
Why can't the "offical review" team look at blatant goaltending calls and simply award two points after the fact. They do it with three pointers. This is simpler.
Thats a good point. I guess it only works cleanly if the defending team gains possession as a result of the goaltend, but even then, too many permutations.I think because if you determine it was goaltending the ball should be taken out of bounds, which can’t happen after the fact. Nothing changes with changing a 2 to a 3.
Extra credit for the red and white striped sweater.
Signed Jimmy Chitwood…IU fans had a lot...a lot to bitch about. If you understand the game, it was not whining...it was bitching, and it was and still is legit.
The moving screens were astonishing. We (BIG) need to educate our officials on what moving screens are and get them called.
The game was a wrestling match and this type of officiating is killing our entire league in the tournament. Northwestern does not benefit in the tournament by being allowed to play this way all season.
As well as being -10 in the turnover count.Ahhhh, there it is. The classic IU line.
And I generally have little problems with IU fans.
For any IU fan, this is simple. If you want to b*tch about the fouls, fine. But you also better be talking about missed free throws and - not one - but TWO incredibly dumb technical fouls.
Allow me to educate some IU folks. That's what lost you the game.
Kopp fouled Audige on the in bounds pass that led to their tying basket.I may not understand the tactical side of the game, but I’ve watched enough to know that 99% of refs will swallow their whistles with under five seconds left and a tie game unless there’s an actual murder on the court.
You are correct...it is not remotely accurate because it is entirely accurate. Go whine somewhere else. This is not remotely accurate.
What’s it like to live in 1989 as a collective group?Where have I been less than gracious?

Just trying to educate some folks here that are either blinded by bias or unaware of what they are looking at.
BIG teams (all of us ) are hurt in the dance when the game is called more on finesse and less on wrestling. Look at the results and talk to people from all teams. And, yes, refs have primary assigments. LS is a primary BIG official, especially now that he was fired from his real job as a cop.
I didn't think it could get worse than the whining the Purdue fans did but it was. Someone actually complained to me about the smoke gun going off before the final buzzer over the hoop Hood-Schifino's last heave was shot at. As if that affected a 3 quarter court shot that actually hit the damn rim!
Personally, I didn't like the "F*** you, Miller!" chants, either. I was hoping for something more creative.
So at 6 years old, already more intelligent than you?Sure that is the simple way to follow the game. My six year old is right there with you.
