I cant logically understand why we run the no huddle hurry up.
if our defense is our strength, and all we do is run the ball most of the time "justin Jackson the ball carrier", then why are we running the hurryup?
When a very very inefficient offense runs the hurryup, here is what happened with our drive charts and top.
.48 seconds
.55 seconds
.58 seconds
1.13 seconds
1.17 seconds
1.21 seconds
1.43 seconds
1.40 seconds
1.54 seconds.

My buddy Ned asked me what the hell we were doing going quick start. That was even after a few beer.

Well, for one thing, it wore out Minnesota's defense.

And those times of possessions had alot of runs in them.

And why are we running jackson 65 times a game? He is leading the nation. Someone needs to educate McCall Me Never that we can do something other than "Justin Jackson the ball carrier".
Jackson will b rubber legs late in the season. We have 3 other quality backs as well. We need to think about some of this stuff and be more progressive than handing it off to jackson most of the time. It isnt fooling anyone. It would be the equivalence of us giving the ball to Trey for all of our shooting offense in basketball. Just basic.

Comparable talent it may have its merits but it was not going to wear out michigan and it isnt going to wear out iowa or wisconsin. We cant walk into games as zombies and think that if something worked on a B league team that it will work on A leaguers. That said, we should have slowed it down and got a grip on the game last week instead of staying with something that was just not going to work.

Uh, we're not. He rushed for 20 times against MN and 12 against Michigan. Both were lower than any other game in the season at the time. So, his workload has reduced from earlier.

When we get going, the hurry up keeps D's on their heals but you have to get that first first down. I wish we would carefully scrip the first plays of every series and then hurry up as soon as teh chains move.

The reason is that the no huddle does not allow the defense to make substitutions. It is that simple. It's not so much that it is "hurry up". In fact, much of the time the play clock goes down pretty low, but the no huddle means the defense is limited in their ability to bring in different personnel. It's not a bad strategy.

Except when all you do is run the ball, the defense never needs to substitute.........

Nonsense. We've gassed A-leaguers with the no-huddle O in the past. The intense gassing of Iowa and their all-NFL line by Persa in 2010 comes to mind. Iowa's DL were in iron lungs and sucking oxygen on the sideline trying to catch their breath.

Iowa Locker room after Persa was through with them. Of course, Persa was being attended to doctors himself elsewhere at that time.

It's main advantage is that when it is running effectively, the opposition cannot substitute potentially gaining an advantage. It also has the advantage that when you substitute you are never called for illegal substitution. It might be less of an advantage this year but it has its moments.

We did great with no huddle...hurry ups prior. Im just saying that it was seemed extremely ineffective last week and that we should have adjusted out of it. just seemed silly with repeating the samd .55 second drives that could have gassed our defense, not theirs.
i mean its great for effective offenses but our offense is on the back of our defense and defensive big plays.. against stanford and duke there were times when i felt we wouldnt score a TD unless our special teams or defense did. unfortunately, against mich, our offense didnt get that big play lift from other units. Its starting to look like minny was an offensive exception.

Have you ever coached/ played a down of competitive football in your life? I'm talking HS and beyond.

Let me know when you can, thx

Turk i like most of your post but i think we need to stick to what we planned this summer. That means hurryup is the way to go.thx
I disagree with u.i look at the numerous 50 second drives, and i watched the game, and i just have to tell you again that we should have slowed it down and regrouped. We were rattled and floored early and i think good coaching adjusts and just doesnt continue doing whatever it is that isnt working. Just because it worked against other teams doesnt mean we use it religiously when it isnt working last saturday.
Maybe if some things were established, it would have worked or maybe it wouldnt work against minny next time....hurry up offense is dependent upon many things.
So i completely disagree with you once again that McCall needs to stick with what he planned in kenosha. Other teams watch film so we cant keep doin what McCall Me Never thought worked two months ago.
