Roy Schimdt is reporting that Charlie Moore's first visit since re-opening his recruitment will be to Northwestern. He only has 2 OV's remaining so it's not clear if this will an unofficial or official. Whatever the case, the fact this kid is taking a visit to Evanston is pretty incredible.

I think that forward from Lockport won player of the year in '78.

Yes Pete was the guy. 6-8 F from Maine South. He was a decent player at NU, but definitely not a star. He also had one of the great porn staches of that era.

I thought Terry Hurley NU'69 was the Player of the Year @ Steinmetz in 1965. Terry could shoot but was not big enough for forward nor quick enough for guard. He was a great guy , a terrific hearts player and could eat a large Gulliver's pizza . He was a Chem E major and really smart. I lost touch with him after graduation and now in my "nostalgic phase" would love to get in touch with him again

You're right, Doc, Hurley was the 1965 POY. He was at NU before my time so I didn't make the connection.

Hurley was a good player but NU basketball was very good during his stay. Spot duty was all he ever could claim

Terry was a good player but NU basketball was really good during his years at NU. NU literally had 10 B1G players but only the league champion advanced to the NCAA's

I went back and looked at the records during that period. NU was over 0.500 all 4 years but nothing dramatic. However, taking his senior season for example, NU played @Stanford, @UC Santa Barbara, Missouri, @Butler, Colorado, Ohio, Washington State, Florida, BC, and #1 UCLA in non-conference, and went 8-2. Not a single MVSU or UMass Lowell in the bunch! For all the crowing about winning 20 regular season games, back in those days they played comparable programs not a bunch of third tier teams. Cats were actually ranked as high a 12th that season. Good team indeed.

We played UCLA with Alcindor/Jabbar at Chicago Stadium. I believe we were up by 10 at the half pounding Kareem with 3 different centers. I believe we shot only 30% for the first half then we went cold in the second half. As I said NU was good in the late 60's

Apparently that is the case, I thought I heard somewhere that he will visit this weekend? Either way I think this recruitment is going to be an uphill battle. According to Moore's coach, Moore's top concern is going to a school where he will start immediately. I like the kid and think he will be a great college player, but he would have to prove he belongs on the court more than both Lindsey and Lumpkin. He could very well be better than both, but I don't think Collins will be able to guarantee he would start from day 1.

I agree Collins would be foolish to "guarantee" he would start. But I also doubt he sits behind either Lumpkin or Lindsey. He would definitely be the second best Guard on the team should he enroll in September.

Interesting idea. My thoughts with Moore could be Mac, Moore or Lindsey or Ash , Law or Lindsey, Falzon, Pardon with heavy pressure from the frosh and bench. I think CCC could guarantee him a chance to win the spot and a true athletic star would only need that much.

By comparison, being away from my computer, what do his expected options offer in terms of opportunity and level of competition? Seems like i have heard about much departure from the B1G alone so I'm guessing there are reasonable options too.

"Will Start Immediately" sounds like a guarantee for D II. Could start/play a lot immediately? We would be fine that way. BMac could play shooting guard any day, and having actual depth at the point spot would be soooo good for our late season performance as a team. He would still have to earn it.
