Nantz on W-R atmosphere

Great interview here with Jim Nantz where he talks extensively about the atmosphere at the NU-Purdue game, among other things. It blows my mind that he is talking about Northwestern basketball in these terms.

Jim Nantz: College Vs. Pro Mindset, Northwestern's Atmosphere, Calling Fred Couples Objectively
Thanks for sharing this. The best atmosphere in the history of the arena on the last game. Really cool.

I know one of the goals of the renovation is to make it even louder so if the team continues to be competitive, Welsh Ryan will provide a real home court advantage. Something, unfortunately, our football team has never had.

You obviously were not around in 1995-1996.
I was there. The Penn State game was the one game where I felt like there was a true home field advantage. Unless we get bandwagon jumping fans from Chicago (and I am all in favor of that), I would be very surprised if we can consistently generate 40,000 Northwestern fans (and half of those don't make noise). We seem to be stuck in the 25,000 to 30,000 range. When opposing teams talk about needing to adjust to the lack of energy in the stadium, you probably don't have a home field advantage.

True. If you weren't at games back when you had to be in line to get into the parking lots at 6 am just to get a spot, you don't really understand that fantastic moment in NU history.
