No more clock stoppage on first downs?

You missed the most important rule change, no more consecutive timeouts during the same dead-ball period. Fitz won't be able to "ice" the kicker two or three times in a row now.

This is very forward thinking and a little counter intuitive which you don't see much in any filed these days. Short term the shorter game will allow for fewer commercials and less revenue but long term popularity and eyeball will be enhanced and potential for more game in one day would add commercial breaks down the road.

I don’t think it’s realistic to believe these new rules will have any impact on the number or length of commercial breaks in the game.

The three main TV partners are going to be given every opportunity to earn profit on their investment and be eager to continue (at a higher rate) at the next contract negotiation. Earning that profit isn’t likely to happen with fewer and/or shorter time allocated to commercials.

There are usually 4 breaks per quarter at dead ball opportunities. (Scores, change of possession, injuries, replay). Just because there are one or two fewer plays per 3 minutes of game clock shouldn’t impact the number of opportunities for a TV timeout.
