OT: RIP BUTKUS

A childhood friend of mine (with whom I've kept in touch through the decades since) was a college teammate of Butkus at Illinois. Their '64 Rose Bowl team held periodic get-togethers, and Butkus was in attendance at most of them.
I've heard several stories of their on- and off-field escapades in college, and they indicate Butkus was a larger-than-life presence well before his storied Bears career. The tales were told to me in confidence and I don't feel comfortable in revealing them here -- especially in aftermath of DB's death. Suffice to say he was a real piece of work. My old buddy has never mentioned Butkus' name without a broad smile and mischievous glint, but of course he was only the big guy's teammate. Opponents had different views.
