Really was rooting for Purdue to take down PSU. Did either of those teams look significantly better than we did? I don’t think so.

Terrible coaching by Brohm. He handed Ped State that final offendrive with plenty of time for an 80 yard TD.
If Purdoodoo had just pounded the ball and run clock on their prior two drives that never would have happened.
Both teams look beatable. This could be a fun season.
They took off almost the exact amount of time. 6 minutes to 2:30. And Penn State didn’t need to use those precious time outs and even ran the ball once.
Shouldn't we always be rooting for East teams to beat West teams (besides us of course) because that would help us in the West standings?
Well in general yes, can't root for PSU though no matter who they are playing.
Key differences:
1. Purdue punted to the end zone instead of pinning them deep;
2. PSU had the luxury of running a variety of plays with the timeouts in their pocket
Of course but in the history of our team have we ever held any team no matter how poor they were under a hundred yards
It will be interest to see how PSU plays D against a team with a more balanced offense. Purdue appeared to move the ball well with a passing attack however I would stay away from Jordan. That DB is really good.
One of whom had 12 catches for 153 yards and a TD last night. That had to have hurt for Hawkeye fans.

The difference was Brohm’s piss poor game management on their last two drives. He seemed to be intentionally not running the clock down while making some questionable play calls, which enabled Ped State to have plenty of time and all their timeouts for their game winning drive.
It was something awful to behold.
Both teams had similar total yards (426 Purdue, 406 Penn St) and each team had a back breaking turnover. Neither team went over 100 yards rushing. The big thing that stands out is Purdue kicking a field goal instead of getting a touchdown on the first scoring drive.
I reviewed the drive charts. Compared NU and Purdue last 2 possessions after each took a 31-28 lead (not counting the last possession of the game for each, which for us was running out the clock).
Purdue’s last 2 possessions - 12 plays, 3:43, PSU kept 2 timeouts
NU’s last 2 possessions - 12 plays, 5:54, Neb burned all timeouts
Huge difference for the same number of plays.
I’ll extend the logic - if Purdue were able to do the same exact clock burn, PSU would’ve had 1:11 on the clock with no time outs. Their playbook would’ve been more limited. Instead, with 2:22 and 2 timeouts, they could pretty much run their regular offense without too much pressure.

Better to complain about a boring finish to a win than a pass-happy finish to a loss… but humans are not rational, give me some late-game play action, at least…what can go wrong?!?
Charlie Jones of Deerfield. He started his college career in 2018 at Buffalo (18 catches), sat out the COVID year, transferred to Iowa for 2021 (21 catches) and is now Boilered up. At this rate, he will be at Bama in 2024.
Bingo. Similar story with the WR from Texas ... Collin Sullivan. He too ended up at Purdue. I thought Yaseen could be good in college. I thought Sullvan was a definite no offer type. Now they're in their 3rd year and still not playing.
Went through Purdue's roster. Seemed like they had 20+ WRs suited up for the game. And their 2 best came from Iowa via the portal?
How can you be Penn St. and do no better than a 6th year Sean Clifford at QB? Or field a defense with some great DBs and be lucky to hold a pass only team with re-cycled WRs to 28 points?
Gotta keep getting better. I think we will. If we do we can beat both these teams on the road.

That 5 star freshman has an absolute cannon. Ped State has a bright future beyond Clifford.
Franklin ain't going to be starting a Frosh ahead of Clifford. Yes, he has his limitations, especially with that knee brace (he used to be a real running threat), but the Frosh made a terrible pass on third down that could easily have been picked I know Clifford had one of those that was picked later on), Unless Clifford gets injured ir PSU just tanks, he will be the QB this year, especially as earaly as we face them.
I really wanted Purdue to win. Any win against Franklin makes me happy (I and other NU fans will never forget low class treatment NU received when he coached at Vandy- remember the notice via snail mail our AD got backing out of future games with Vandy?)
The comparisons of the PU-PSU game to our opener with Nebby really resonated. It was frustrating as an outside observer rooting for Purdue/ against Franklin how they absolutely failed to run down the clock against Penn State. The fact that PSU still had 2 time outs left at the end of the game speaks volumes at the inept clock management of the Purdue coaching staff. In comparison in our game we did a great job pounding the ball and running down the clock and forcing Nebby to use their time outs. Purdue’s offense managed to stop the clock with failed passing. A blown win for the Boilers imho. Nice turnout though for them, their fans were really into the game.

FWIW, Purdue looked to be very undisciolined, played a little dirty, and dumb decisions on both the coaching staff, and on the field. Very mistake prone at times. Might be first game yips, or not being well prepared.
Not true at all. I wanted us to run the ball. Just not on every down. Nebraska had all the time they needed to run whatever they wanted without any time outs to get into field goal range. I’d rather take a 1 percent risk or less that Hillinski makes a terrible decision than put our defense back out there.
