Guys they didn't shut her up or kick her out. They just were like ya let's not have this constant high pitch shreik anymore. She's still welcome to come to games and cheer as loud as she wants. Shreiking is just ended. I don't really have a problem with that because the shrieking really only has a place at free throws. Cheer loud stand up and show up that's great. High pitch wailing excessively is a little much. Especially heard over TV.
Kid, there are definitely two very strong opinions on whether Emily should be silenced or not as you can see by the passion on this topic. I understand you points, but I am of the opinion that:
1) it is de facto censorship. What is going to stop someone to complain about me or you, yelling too loud, not throwing verbal bouquets at the opposition Coach, letting a Ref have at when there is a bad call, standing and being told to sit down, booing both NU and the opposition team? As a fan, NU nice is not me. Slippery slope here.
2) as I have repeatedly said, she is in the STUDENT section. Their job is supposed to be to make noise. If she was planted in the center of the Wilson Club, I would have a different opinion. To be clear, I wouldn’t want he4 directly behind me, but I sure want her in the student section.
3) You are correct that they didn’t kick her out of the arena and as far as we know didn’t tell her she can’t cheer. I wasn’t there last Wednesday, so I don’t have a good handle on how vigorous her cheering was, but how would you feel as the President of student Support organization and you were told YOUR particular form of support was not welcome. Suck the life right out of you?
4) I am betting most of the people doing the complaining, including on this board, are NOT regulars at the basketball games. It’s about the networks bitching and other people believing it gives NU a bad look. Sorry, if it bothers people on TV.
5) people routinely rip students for not attending and supporting NU Athletics, but it’s only if those students act and behave according to what they find acceptable. Hilarious. Is there any University in major athletics more PC than NU?
I could go on, but it’s not going to change anyone’s mind on either side. It’s a polarizing discussion.
