I'm actually hoping that WML is instead medically redshirted, so we can see him for 13 or 14 games next season

Me too. Hand injury shouldn't diminish his abilities as a RB and he will have had a year to rehab any nagging injuries from his life time of football. He might be noticeable better than ever which was pretty good.
