It’s time to move on from Collins

You should show up to Welsh Ryan on Sunday for the selection show and tell him that.
Selection Sunday Watch Party at Welsh Ryan: back-to-back years, hope you'll be there or tuning in to the selection show.
Are you seriously pulling up posts from 3 and a half years ago to try and make a point?? Don't be that guy, this is beyond ridiculous.

Edit: Nevermind, I see you were that guy last year too, despite never posting on the basketball board about anything else since Feb 9 2022. Glad you found time to gloat the last two years, perhaps a better use of your time would have been engaging in actual discussion instead of being a dick.

Of course you would take offense to this thread. You are one of the morons that partake in threads like this, and then lock threads when you are outed. Which discussions would you like me to engage in? Do I have permission to engage in the Caitlin Clark thread? Can I start a thread with nicknames for Cappy?

Come on..."Crappy" is right there!

I kid.

Crazy thread. Crazier when you look at that season, beating Michigan State like a week later and starting the conference season 3-0, then going into the toilet. Then getting out of the toilet at the end.

I wanted Collins out at that point, thinking nothing would change. And to his credit, the Lowery move has been a godsend, all we had to do was get rid of players so good they went to Duke, UNC, and Indiana, and a kid that UMASS didn't want turned out to be the most transformative player in school history.

Just as we all drew it up. Congrats to all.

Careful with the language. People have been put on board timeout for less…

At the risk of beating my own dead horse into a bloody pulp...maybe we will never the a school that has success due to 4 and 5 star recruits, either FB or BB. It feels like for every JJTBC, a transformative performer, we have a HuJo, who didnt meet expectations. Every Thorson is balanced by a Hilinski, trying hard, not making it. It felt like Collins was trying to get the hot recruit all the time, instead of forming and developing a team.

I would never say we should avoid such recruits, but don't over-rely on it

That’s where I think you’re wrong. I think everyone wants success. But I also think there’s several people that DON’T want success under Collins for whatever crazy reason they have and it’s made them bitter about it.
I have no idea about that. I know I'm happy.

Oh (edit) off. He should have been fired after 2022, he would have been fired if not for the buyout, and it worked out incredibly well for everyone that he got another year. I stand by it.
It's been 11 years since your guy got fired, get over it. How are DocCats, Purplicious and msnow doing? Firing BC and hiring CCC was the best decision since the hiring of Gary Barnett. Embrace CCC, I think he'll be around for a while.

How do you guys remember all of this stuff?? There are enough of us assholes on the board now... I don't have the mental capacity to remember the old assholes too!

We are going to continue to recruit the best players that will commit to NU. With our recent success, you are going to see more highly recruited players. Absent an obvious attitude issue, I am not sure how our coaches will know that someone is not a team player or that the pieces won't fit together. And recruiting 2-star quarterbacks has certainly been disastrous for the football team. Bring on as many 4-stars as Collins can recruit that fill a need and look to be motivated and competitive. I agree, though, that we shouldn't just fish in that pond and need to be prepared to pivot if you lose out on those guys. I am sometimes not sure if the criticism is related to the 4-stars who actually committed or the other guys we ended up with because Collins was chasing 4-stars. Ash, Brown, Gaines and Greer were the only guards he recruited over a 4-year period. Let that soak in for a minute. That was his downfall. And none of those guys was close to being a 4-star recruit. It took Buie 4 years to become great and, what do you know, the team had success.

TheC - When you post incessantly over a number of years about the same stuff, you will be remembered. For example, if someone has a meltdown during the 1st half of every in-game thread, they will be remembered as the in-game thread meltdown guy. ;)

Men’s Basketball is the one place a new ambitious AD can make his mark. Fitz isn’t going anywhere and the facilities are done.
This is a good comment too. What a slam-dunk hire. Ambitious AD has this program selling out WR and on the way to a second-straight tourney!

I didn't read this history. I find the whole thing kind of funny. The ENTIRE board was DEAD wrong - me included. Nearly all of us - ALL OF US - were in "what's next" mode.

All of us except SDGordie. God love ya, man. Nothing wrong with some faith and loyalty.

I'm glad so many of us were so absolutely wrong. What really matters is how many of us continue to cheer, hope, maybe pray and celebrate.

And many thanks to the program for keeping the faith when so many lost it.

Everybody on the planet was wrong. There was no good reason outside the building to see any chance of success last season. But EVERYBODY was wrong and Chase and Boo and Collins made massive improvements and turned themselves into amazing players and defied all odds, prognostication, and analysis. That’s a thing of beauty, that’s one of the reasons we watch sports. If I wanted to see the odds hit every time I’d just go open a casino.

Appreciate the recognition, given the very next post after yours ignores it - classic Board stuff!

Wow, I feel pretty smart for a change.

Fact is, fans typically blame the coaches when their team stumbles. Especially in College Sports. To some, it’s taboo to blame players for not doing their job. I can guarantee you that their will be calls for CcC’s head when we drop below 500 in the conference.

The truth is CCC has been relatively ( for NU) successful. He has a generational talent. No Coach consistently wins without talent. CCC has always been a decent Coach. He has gotten better, but he too with fall back when he loses this group. IMO, coaches get too much credit and especially too much blame for each game. They should be judged on their body of work, not the most recent game.

Maybe, maybe not. But it doesn’t make you any less wrong.
Cool. I’m one of the archive guys. Guess you will be first in line for the next mea culpa I catch, right? Or is that ‘what aboutism’ and triggering you?

What’s interesting about this thread is the number of posters calling for his head that no longer post during all our success.
Not really Jim - see, in real sports circles, fans expect success. Far as I can see, only cub fans and the PKK historically embrace losing and search for bright sides.

Thanks to Gagg, CCC took that message and turned a major corner - becoming a pretty good coach. Pretty good coaches win games. Wins make fans happy. Therefore, all those unhappy fans (due to all those losses) are now happy.

Any other big secrets of the world that I can help you understand? Gravity, round earth, block chain

Which Collins are you? Doug, is that you? Are you having another ‘episode’? Should we call Jerry for you?

Archives were made much easier a few years ago. Sadly, the new roll out wiped out everything before it.

Maybe - but if you review the highest rated recruits for BB - following two dance appearances - you would expect at least one new face in the top ten as it’s a pretty low bar.

There were a few of us who understood the difficulty of NU and never felt we should be in a hurry to replace CCC.
