Other than the obvious - points are how you win - this is the key to Berry/Leach/someone hitting 3s each night. It keeps defenses from taking the lane away from Brooks and Nick. We'll see lots of this, but we can exploit and neutralize it by hitting our 3s.

  • I expected it to be a mausoleum today. Nice crowd and pretty active.
  • The little that I've watched (today and on TV), I'm alarmed at Leach's inability to bring the ball up and handle pressure. He can score some, but woof handling and distributing.
  • Ty Berry, PLEASE be back. Brooks and Nick can't do it alone.
  • Really nice venue. Excited to go back soon.
  • Crappy weather or I'd have walked around outside to see stadium progress.
  • Hunger looks like he regressed.
  • Excited to see the two young guys get a couple of mins.
  • Big Matty's swat brought me out of my seat.

I go to every game (I know - your happy for me) but my oldest son was with us and I kept telling him on the way over that I expected 3 thousand tops and a dead arena. I am really happy to have been so wrong.

Also, I love it was first visit to the new WR. At the last game, we were talking about the days before the '83 rehab when the place still had dirt floors. We've come a long way from having that to having one of the best places to watch hoops in the country.

I would've played football for a free education. And the revenue sports pay for opportunities in the non-revenue sports, something the NFL and NBA don't do. What is the mission of a school?

I think the administrators and faculty immediately give themselves raises (if they can) and spend the money on athletic equipment and facilities, then distribute whats left to other programs in the school.

Bowl games

The bowl games should be part of the lobby to reform the portal if they want to survive. I think we saw for the first time ever a team forfeit their bid because they had too many guys in the portal. There’s got to be some incentive to playing the bowl games.

Remember when it was a point of fascination to learn about the swag they got? Like an XBox, gift cards, watches and leather jackets. That’s like a joke now.

We actually have too MANY regulations in college football in that what few regulations we do have make the problem significantly worse, as is usually the case with regulations.

Because one of the only existing rules around compensation is a ban on explicit inducement, schools and players are forbidden from seeking multi-year commitments from each other. It players were allowed to commit for multi-year deals it would lessen some of the transfer chaos, especially the in-season stuff. Instead, this is regulated away so it remains very chaotic.

I declared "Garbage Time" with 1:56 to play and the Wildcats ahead 81-58. Ciaravino and Windham played 51 seconds of non-garbage time, but it was inconsequential.

Ty Berry and Brooks Barnhizer led the way for NU. Barnhizer put up 21 points, 10 defensive rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and no turnovers. A stellar game.
Berry made 5 of 7 from 3 and 8 of 10 overall, with 3 rebounds, 2 assists 3 steals and no turnovers...
Nick Martinelli was not at his best, going 6 of 13 from the floor, with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 turnovers.

The starters (Nicholson/Martinelli/Barnhizer/Berry/Leach) dug a 11-2 hole in the first 3:30 but ended up winning 47-27 in 21 minutes of game time.
Lineup #2 (Hunger/Martinelli/Barnhizer/Mullins/Leach) went 12-7 in about 4 minutes.

jalen Leach turned the ball over in 2 of our first 3 possessions when doubled and trapped at midcourt. Collins then had Martinelli and Barnhizer bringing the ball up and that changed the dynamic. Cause for concern against teams like Penn State who are athletic and pressure the ball constantly.

Bowl games

For those who weren't happy with the arrangement, I would say it may have been just as important to the Miami coaches and next-up QB to stick with the plan, as Ward definitely isn't coming back next year and neither are the receivers he relied upon all season who didn't play in the bowl game at all - to use the "meaningless" bowl game for 2025 succession planning...maybe a smart move by the program.

Based on where CFB is at right now and where it's going, I imagine we will get to a point where payment to players is impacted by their decision to sit out on postseason games (and the final 3-4 games of the season, because this is going to creep into the regular season...) Otherwise we may see bowl games become de facto spring games where fans are just conditioned to show up to see how SOME of next year's players will look (since, you know, 30-40 new ones might come in from the Portal).
