He’s a tool, but he can win games. There is no doubt about that. And Happy Valley, South Bend, and the like are?
Illinois is a basketball school. It’s not some sleeping football giant and football will always be second fiddle there.
But that doesn’t mean they have to be incompetent, and they’ve been incompetent and further crushed in recruiting by Fitz for YEARS. Bret Beilema may be a variety of things, but incompetent is not what one of them.
I trust the people I trust if you know what I mean. He was not firmly entrenched as the back up, like Ramsey . Completely different. He ran away from the competition for whatever reason. Jack was not guaranteed a starter spot and Sully wasn’t behind a Cam Ward like player! If you went to the open Spring practice, you could clearly see Sully was not differentiating himself from the other QB’s. Entitlement never sets well with me.If you want to dislike him because of what he said when he left, fine. But you have no idea what he was told behind closed doors or what other signals he was being given. Apparently he felt his opportunity was closed off so he moved on. We got QBs from other schools that transferred to NU for similar reasons (Ramsey, Bryant, Wright, etc) so stop being a hypocrite,
If I had a son that was a top end recruit which Coach would I trust with him? Pretty easy, Freeman seems like a real good guy. James seems like an ass. There are plenty of reasons for NU fans to dislike ND.
Franklin is still there (at PSU) because like it or not he has been reasonably successful
How is that different than NU?This is going to be a legitimate test of the “do the QBs suck or is Iowa constitutionally incapable of using them” theory
Glad we’re not playing Illinois right now. They are on a hot streak having won back to back games by 30+
I’m more optimistic about next year having picked up 2 big quality OL, 2 WR (one proven FCS top talent and one with speed and potential), 2 DBs and of course our QB.
The bar at Iowa is literally on the ground, but I would argue Sullivan army crawled over it before his injuryLow bar.
I’m thinking Sullivan was more pissed at being thought of as lesser than Lausch and might not be as offended with having to compete with and play behind Grownowski, but that’s just speculation
We needed thatLogin to view embedded media
Is this news to this board?
We needed a QB and Gronoswski was not yet available, Gotta take the bird in the hand over the one in the bushOr the staff wanted Stone.
Figures. They like our castoffs.
There are plenty of reasons for NU fans to dislike ND.I agree on all points excrpt for the Notre Dame hate.
Like many posters, I’m part Irish and a reformed Catholic. They are just a well reputed school trying to make it as an independent.
P$U is oblivious. How is Franklin still their head coach?
If you want to dislike him because of what he said when he left, fine. But you have no idea what he was told behind closed doors or what other signals he was being given. He lost the competitive and he ran away from it, make all the excuses you want, he didn’t want to compete for the job.
He waited too long and our deal with our QB was already pressed in stone...I still find it odd that Gronowski didn’t seem interested in reconnecting with Lujan by coming to NU. Should that tell us something about Lujan? Or was Gronowski still undecided about entering the portal when Stone became available? I suppose we’ll never know.
I’m thinking Sullivan was more pissed at being thought of as lesser than Lausch and might not be as offended with having to compete with and play behind Grownowski, but that’s just speculationSullivan runs from competition - as we saw with us. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t bail on Iowa.
He WAS better than Macnamara for them. Neither could pass, at least Sullivan had healthy legs for awhile.
