So, who do you despise more…

Northwestern in many respects is not that different from ND. Founded 10 years apart, in the Midwest, similar enrollments, private research institutions, both ladies of a lake. Except for the Catholic thing, but NU is firmly Methodist (just walk around Evanston), who just happened not to have a Vatican. At the turn of the 19th Century, NU clearly had the superior football team. Then something happened--Knute Rockne, the four horsemen, etc. for 13 years in the 1920's. This took hold on the American psyche, and led to a century of ND football pomposity (keeping in mind the Vatican). But NU still has a chance. Never forget, "It's all right, it's okay, you will work for us some day." If NU ever gets great at football again, we will own pomposity.
The first time I heard that chant was a basketball game in 1980 or 81. We lost to the Tripucka/Woolridge/Duck Williams team more or less 80 to 40. I have long found the whole Touchdown Jesus/Rudy/special TV contract/etc. thing extremely pretentious so they're not my favorites. But some of my non-NU friends tell me we have a streak of that too.
