Speculation on Pitt AD Heather Lyke as next AD

Have to wonder how much the paucity of NIL support will weigh on her evaluation of the opportunity at NU. Personally, I would think it would be short-sighted to let our NIL situation be a deterrent. The job has tons of attractive attributes: top revenue conference; several highly successful programs, huge facilities investments, good place to live, and a unique institution in the college sports landscape.

Speculation on Pitt AD Heather Lyke as next AD

I can’t speak as to this website’s veracity or standards, but the name makes some sense based on her career trajectory.

This was posted Wednesday (28 Aug) morning, so the speculation is a decision (not necessarily an announcement) could be done today.

If I were at Pitt, I’d be doing anything to launch an escape pod.

Greek Game live stream

Seems like they played a lot of guys...looked like defense ahead of offense....made you realize how much Boo meant to initiating and driving the offense.....but 3 components still not involved....Most of these teams are comprised of experienced graduated college players...Loyola ran a scrimmage between this years team and past players most of whom are playing in foreign leagues...a couple more than 5 years or so.....and even w/o practice their maturity and experience really showed and left some of the new kids heads, spinning......So good experience for the Cats.

Anyone up to speed on Miami OH?

Sorry but Miami of Ohio is a solid team. And we really don't know much about our O from which QB is starting to having an new OLC (also a lot of changes on OL) and OC. So hope to win sure but expect to at this point is pretty hard
Saint Barney coined it but you can’t go out there not expecting to win. Hope can not be a strategy. No one doubts this is a solid team, certainly one that can beat NU, but there shouldn’t be a fan on this board settling for a good effort against MOH. We should expect a victory.

Sorry, you just aren’t a serious contender in the B1G if you can’t beat the best teams in the MAC at home! Even if MOH is the best team in the MAC, there are only maybe 3 teams that are inferior to them on our schedule. So get used to a 3-9 season if we stumble in this one.

Anyone up to speed on Miami OH?

On defense, MOhio has a pretty good DE (Ugwu), DT (Suttle), Mike (Salopek) and OLB/Joker (Wise).

On offense, they have Gabbert (transfer from Mizzou). They lost their 2 top rushers from last year. They have a couple of big backs and a scat back (Mozee).

They lost their top receiver. They have a possession-type guy, Cade McDonald, who might torture us. Javon Tracy is probably their best deep threat.

I say run the ball straight at these guys. They are not big on the DL (their 3 300-lb DTs are all underclassmen) and make those LBs work. Then hit them with Kirtz and Henning.

Greek Game live stream

Aris Salonica competes in the top tier of the Greek League, and based on their performance last year, they're little bit better than mid-table. Based on checking out their Eurobasket page, they're readying to play EuroCup games in late September. This is the 2nd tier European Continental league. I'm unsure if the team they scrimmaged today is the senior team, or part of their developmental pipeline team (Euro teams have U23, U19 type levels).

Either way, I'd rate the 'Cats play in the first two periods (that's as much as the livestream showed, and I couldn't locate part 2 on YouTube), as what's to be expected given the stage they're in. If anything, it was great to see the 'Cats play ball again.

Prediction Thread: MU @ NU

So football is finally here, even if Dyche Stadium/Ryan Field no longer is. The Cats christen their new, temporary home with an opponent with whom they have some history.

It was Miami of Ohio that was the lone blemish in the perfect 1995 miracle regular season. In addition to instilling a little humility (according to some) that helped on the road to the Rose Bowl, it also was an introduction to one Randy Walker. Walker came to Evanston to coach the second revival of NU Football, introducing the spread offense that, um, spread throughout the college game in the years that followed. It was in the Walker Era and with that spread offense that NU won what some consider the greatest game in college football history, remembered by many just by the score: 54-51.

Walker wasn't the only coach to come to Evanston from Miami. Legendary Ara Parseghian took NU to its most recent #1 ranking in the 1962, before being lured away to an independent school in Indiana.

But the question at hand is will the Cats be ready to play in their new home against a solid MAC foe. With Coach Braun being circumspect, particularly about starting QB, and with new coaching, particularly on offense, predictions would be pretty speculative at this point.

Nonetheless, the time has come for that speculation...
