Anyone up to speed on Miami OH?

Thanks, everyone. I know Miami would be no slouch, I'm not seeing as much optimism as I would have otherwise hoped here for this game, but I'll take comfort in some blind faith and knowledge that the first game of the season can go haywire in either direction, which will maybe favor us here. I'm also cautiously optimistic that Lujan is an offensive prodigy and this Saturday will be a good indication of whether he's FBS-ready out of the gate.
This is typical NU fandom. It’s so predictable that the fanbase worries about every team. Some of this is understandable with the previous debacles we have all seen.

Miami of Ohio is a good team, but we should absolutely expect to win. I don’t care if they are MAC favorites. A “good” B1G team should be able to beat any MAC team. End of story. We will find out if we are a good B1G team on Saturday. A good showing will likely result in a good year. Loss at home and I believe it will be a long year. Win the game!

Anyone up to speed on Miami OH?

Well we had a habit of playing down to or below our competition under the previous coach. And while their players may be more experienced and more skilled, they were definitely not as heavily recruited. Most if not all of the players on the Miami OH roster would have been a Cat had we offered. Here’s hoping that Braun’s FCS roots will somehow underscore a respect for non Power 5 teams and help prevent this maddening syndrome and put an end to losing to MAC and FCS teams.
They have a TON of P4 transfers on their roster.

Notebook: Braun stays tight-lipped about starters ahead of season opener

I’m afraid this will only make the year round traveling youth sports cabal a bigger industry - if there are tons more schollies available even in non revenue sports, so many will see that as a ticket to ride. I was not attuned to this. You really should have your kid work on being great at an obscure sport rather than football or basketball. The “stunt”’team can now go from 14 to 65 scholarships which is the biggest jump in the NCAA.
No way they increase scholarships to the maximum in those non-revenue sports. They still need to deal with Title IV.

The more likely outcome is elimination of many non-revenue sports ( especially Men) and focus on a few sports where you can excel. School will get a reputation as a “baseball school”, a “wrestling school”, a “swimming school” etc. as an example , if the schools in the South and West have a full allocation to baseball, many schools in the North like NU would be foolish to fund the sport. They couldn’t compete. It will be hard to keep all of the non-revenue sports and doing so would increase costs of Title IV compliance where some Women’s sports may have third string players on full scholarships.

Adam Smith: Supply And Demand

From and Athletic article by Mandel:

You get to pick one Northwestern home game. Are you going to the temporary on-campus stadium or Wrigley? — Orange dot Steve

Oh, definitely Northwestern Medicine Field. I’d want to be part of the ultra-exclusive club that gets one of those 15,000 seats. The cheapest ticket on StubHub for the Wildcats’ Oct. 19 Wisconsin game is currently $188 — $12 more than it costs to get into the Badgers’home game against Alabama.

The school should use this in every Economics 101 course on supply and demand.
