Really good X thread on the fan base/temp stadium ticket situation

Bingo, no matter what colors the person wears, NU is getting paid. Various threads over the past few seasons have touched on why NU fandom hasn't really grown. It will be naturally harder for a private university to grow a fanbase, when a minority of the student body is from Illinois on top of the fact that NU enrollment is a fraction of that of the B1G public universities. The alumni association is strong, but is spread out all over the place.
Exactly. If we had a huge fan base in Chicago it would be a different story.

Fremd vs Palatine/ Johnny Obrien report

I went to palatine vs fremd thursday night cross town rivalry game last night 10/10. Wow! Fremd lost by a close margin. But J obrien is the real deal. He was the whole fremd offense. They threw the ball literally 98% of the time. Palatine sold out and dropped into coverage every time. Obrien ran the ball for first downs several times. And he threw the ball into very tight windows all over the field the whole night. He also showed a lot of toughness. He got nearly knocked out of the game near the end of the second quarter. The whole stadium went silent when this happened. I thought he had a concussion and wouldn't return. But he did. He was whoozy getting off the ground after laying there for a few minutes. And he took some vicious hits by the palatine dline. A michigan bound #77 d tackle commit hit him once as he completed a 35 yard heave and I'm not sure how he didn't break some ribs. The guy sitting behind me told me johnny would probably break my heart and decommit. I am not buying it. I think he'll go to nu and start all 4 years. And hopefully break cthorson record for wins by qb. He was obviously the best player on the field. Only really made one bad throw that was a pick-6. But the refs called defensive holding on palatine and the td was overturned. In sum, we've got a gem for our next class. If necessary, I'd tell the nu people to pay this kid nil whatever it takes. I really enjoyed watching him throw the ball all over the field. He saw the whole field and made some superior tosses. Several times he hit his wrs right in the chest even when they were draped by defenders. He is like the opposite of the type of o that we've seen the past several years. I think he'll give us a lefty Bacher with several games like the 500 yard passing he had vs teams like msu his second season at qb for nu. And he did all this while being chased all over the back field by palatine's dline. It looked like palatine's line was about 2-3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier than fremd's oline. Really remarkable. And I am REALLY looking forward to seeing luhan work his wonders with this young fellow!

Minimum 100 field goal attempts?

Some our best "key kickers" were far below that because they did not to need so many field goals. We were punching in touchdowns.

How many field goals did Bryan Huffman kick in 2004? We were really scoring touchdowns back then. But when could do, boom punch three points.,

He won some games for us. Brian didn't kick 100 kids for us.

I don't understand the economics of this. If a concert is coming to town, why would NU be selling tickets to it or have the boxes sold already. 1. Wouldn't whoever is promoting the event want to sell those seats at the highest price available? 2. Why would anybody buy a box that in clouds a bunch of events they may or may not care about?
NU’s sports media licensing partner is part of a conglomerate that also manages performing talent. There are significant advantages to performing outside the City of Chicago as union labor requirements create greater venue costs in town. NU with its partner can assemble a very attractive slate of concerts sufficient to attract a very high price for luxury boxes. Basic non-box tickets are sold event-by-event.

The new redevelopment plan announced for the United Center includes a musical venue to seat about 6000. NU can get all the warm weather events of that size as part of its schedule.

Sorry, I missed you at Indiana. I am skipping my 55th in November. Las Vegas ,last year , was great ,except for losing Heard after family was so proud of their son's NU degree
Sorry to miss you too. Las Vegas was fun and it was nice to chat briefly with Rod Heard and family at dinner post game. I assume you're playing lots of golf at your great Hilton Head club.

No. The most important hire in the stadium project is the agency that will be booking the event entertainment. Demand for football is well-established and small. Without fielding a consistently winning team, something that in the NIL era and the expanded B1G is effectively impossible for NU, game tickets will always generate but peanuts.

Luxury boxes are the real cash cow and the main focus. Those will sell at high prices based on the full year entertainment package. Six initial mega concerts growing to 15 in five years, toss in 6 football games, various smaller concerts and other events to make luxury boxes a significant new revenue stream for NU. That is their plan.

They won’t be wasting time cultivating and serving 15,000 season ticket holders who pay $250 per game ticket. They will be laser focused on attracting the acts that will lead to folks paying several orders of magnitude more to enjoy them in style with the appetizers, aperitifs and dessert carts rolling by.

Uggh.... stupid Peacock

Aside from the expense, Peacock just absolutely sucks for sports viewing. There is no way to move forward or backward in increments. It is very hard to skip commercials and even halftime. I hate Peacock most of all. Gimme OwlVision even.
The Olympics coverage on Peacock was awesome. It seems to be getting better, and has lots of things worth watching. (Snl)

You are the best Styre. I was in Evanston last week and thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the temporary new stadium, but I was not able to catch many of the other games. This week I'll be relaxed in my lazy boy, the mini-fridge is full of October Fest, and I'll be able to switch games with the click of a button. Life is good. Thanks!

You are missing out on Peacock's best sports event-The Six Nations Rugby Tournament. Everybody should enjoy bleeding, concussions and broken limbs. The tournament begins about Feb 1 and extends through March. Ireland will be defending its' championship.

For rugby enthusiasts, Leinster host Munster at Croke Park, Dublin this weekend. It is already sold out with more than 70,000 expected. The Taoiseach gave dispensation for the match to be played at Croke Park, usually reserved exclusively for GAA sports-hurling and Gaelic football. The match can be seen on Flosports-the best bargain for rugby enthusiasts-URC(United Rugby Championship), French Top 14, Pacific Rugby Championship(NZ, Australia, Pacific Islands), Currie Cup(S. Africa), Fall and Summer internationals
Rugby is the most demanding contact sport. It requires fitness, strength, aggression, speed, agility and quality mouthpieces

You've sold it well - I think I will watch this.
