Gronowski

1) Gronowski got a lot of NIL money from SDSU to come back there, plus he was going for a 3-peat that would’ve put him on the Mount Rushmore of all-time FCS greats.

2) Gronowski didn’t enter the portal until after Stone had committed to NU. I’m sure we would have recruited him had he entered before or simultaneously with Stone.
Grownowski should get multiple offers including Iowa. Stone looks like a stud too.

Both are one season rentals. Braun & Lujan are likely happy as heck rn

The Rant Board

But, as Bardo pointed out - Northwestern needs to back off from Ace Baldwin and make him make a jump shot. Stop getting up on him and using hands to slow him down when he tries to go by.

I thought that was a solid observation.
There are things about the NBA game I don't like, but one thing I do like is that not every slight bit of contact, especially away from the basket, is a foul. Last night, even the slightest caress was a foul.

  • Where can one see this Big Ten statement you are referencing, PurpleWhiteBoy?

  • This is where it's a judgment call: "Basket interference occurs when a player... Causes the basket or backboard to vibrate when the ball is... in the cylinder"... both Penn State players hit the rim / backboard, and particularly given the way the rim was contacted by #14 (he hits the rim straight on and then his hand slides along the front side of the rim to the left) and the ball being in the cylinder at that time, the refs could have made that judgment call (which would have matched the result that was actually the fair result -- no one can say with a straight face the whistle at 6.1 actually affected the result of the play)
Dave Revsine read it outloud at some point later in the evening, during one of the other games or the wrap-up afterwards.
The statement was released an hour or 3 after our game ended, because social media was all over it - such that the Big Ten felt it necessary to respond.
I am only paraphrasing what I heard Revsine say.

My column: Fouls disparity vs. PSU nothing new for Northwestern

January 4, 2023 at Northwestern. Northwestern shoots 40 free throws. Illinois shoots 10.

It’s easy to forget when your team gets that advantage at home.
That was an interesting game. One of the few games that Cats have played where the refs actually blew whistles when the Cats opponents repeatedly threw them to the ground, tore their shirts, bloodied their arms, and body slammed them out of bounds, while at the same time Boo and Ty kept getting away with suplexing Shannon and Dainja.

I'm sure to you that seems just like last night's game.

But you may be biased.

Gronowski

As far as point #2 goes, if Gronowski wanted to be with Lujan at NU we would have known that long before we went after Stone. Whether he was officially in the portal or not.

I tend to agree with your preference of Stone over Gronowski. However, if Gronowski ends up at Iowa and we don’t add a couple of starter quality players on OL and WR, I wouldn’t be surprised at all in Gronowski had a better year.

Fair point. I’m confident we will land additional OL and WR. Will be interesting.

At 7:04-7:05 of the above clip, you can see the ball in the cylinder when #14 hits the rim with his hand and again on his follow thru, so hits the rim twice. How can that not be goal tending? And the camera angle is really good imho.

I will say, with all my raging on the refs, if Ty had made the shot or Leach had dunked after, we'd have an entirely different set of bad ref calls deciding the game on the other end to complain about.
