2024-25 NET ratings thread

Something I just noticed: If the season ended today we would not be in the Big 10 tournament.

However, we WOULD be in the College Basketball Crown as we currently have the second-best NET rating of conference teams projected to miss the NCAA tournament (top 2 NET not in the NCAAT are auto bids for the Crown):

10 teams are likely in.

Indiana is next and on the bubble, currently NET 57.
NU 62
Iowa 63 (before losing to Oregon tonight)
USC 65
PSU 80
Rutgers 81
Minnesota 89
Washington 94

It’s conceivable we could go 2-3, miss the BTT, and still end up with a better NET than the 6 teams below us. And if IU moves up to the tourney we’d only need to be ahead of 5 of the 6.

We also could go 0-5 and it’s moot but we’re shockingly close to postseason play as of today.
Following up on this:

Although the early stories/press releases about the College Basketball Crown mentioned NET as the criteria for the auto bids, the criteria for the two auto bids isn't posted on the tournament's site. The official site mentions that there are auto bids but does not say how they are awarded. So we may be assuming that NET is the deciding factor, but it also may just end up being who FOX most wants to be in it.

That said, this is a 16-team team tournament run by the Big 10's TV partner, and I saw someone put together a Crown bracketology (lol) and they literally had *every* Big 10 team that doesn't make the NCAA tourney in the Crown. The conventional wisdom seems to be that the NIT is going to get ACC and SEC teams as well as some mid-majors while the Crown is just going to fill its bracket with Big 10/Big East/Big 12 teams because those are the three leagues partnered with FOX for it and they have no incentive to invite teams outside of that pool.

Ty Berry

Ty Berry is looking to do more and has a point guard who does traditional Point Guard stuff, in KJ Windham - and to a lesser extent - Clayton.
Nicholson and Berry are both stepping up - and the young guys are looking for them.

We were soooooo static on offense. Now we're trying all kinds of stuff.
In my opinion, some of that has to do with Windham handling the ball.
I loved the motion and the speed of motion on offence. Really made the defence burn calories to keep up. I think a big part of that was schematic and a coaching reaction to us being down two top players. For sure KJ and Clayton enable this with their handles, but also seems a coaching decision to play less heroball to lighten the load and dilute defensive focus on our 1 star player.

If you are Martinelli, do you stick around for next year or hit the portal?

The only similarity I see between McHale, Mullin and Nick is they are all white.

Nick is a great college player, but McHale and Mullin are top 100 NBA of all time.
If Martinelli, who has clearly worked hard at improving his game, gets better to the same degree between his junior and senior years as he did between his sophomore and junior years, he has an excellent chance of a long career in the League...

Worst loss since ?

The thing that allowed us to get up was an unreal number of O rebounds in first half. We shot just as poorly in second half but without the O rebounds which made for shorter possessions and let them back in, NEB shot nothing from 3 in first half and had a number in second and we could not seem them. Then they ended up with a lot of FTs as well
For shi** and giggles, if the cats win their remaining four games and then win 2 big ten tournament games, could they make it into the tournament? Cant believe I’m even asking this.

Backup UNL centers Morgan and Meah - 18 points. Starting NU center Nicholson and backup Fitz - 8 points.

Already discussed Windham and Clayton combined zero.

36% vs. their 44% shooting.

That about does it.
