Northwestern offer 'the best feeling in the world' for TE Noah LaPorte

Temp Stadium Logistics

The practice today was a lot of fun, if a little chilly when the sun went behind the clouds.

Hard for me to discern much regarding on-field action. Lausch got a lot of snaps for what that’s worth.

Biggest surprise was the hot chocolate table was stocked the entire game! And free!!

I am wondering how they are going to handle foot traffic around the stadium. We walked up from the south campus open air lot (the 2-level not the new deck) along the lakefront and it was great.

I am guessing they will shut down that path east of the playing field which would be too bad. It would be a cool spot to watch games for free through the trees.

Handling 15k people in that small space is going to be a big challenge requiring a lot of planning. Plan to get there early and leave late.

STH survey

I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the questions NU asked.

I was a bit puzzled by the question about the "benefits" (I think that was the word) NU offers STHers. Maybe I'm missing something. But outside the Wilson Club, we pay for tickets and we get better seats. That's the only advantage I saw. Maybe a couple invites each year ... yawn.

Lots of questions about the game-day atmosphere. My response was the best thing NU could do to improve the atmosphere was get 5000+ butts in the seats for EVERY game, even if they need to give away the tickets.

There was also a question about prices. You better not have answered that you were completely satisfied with prices.

Notebook: Wildcats close out spring practice in front of fans

Northwestern finished up its 2024 spring practices in front of fans at an open practice at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. Here are our notes from today's event.

Five things to look for at Northwestern's open spring practice

Northwestern football is hosting an open spring practice on April 20, its last spring practice of the cycle. Here are five things to look we'll be looking for at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium on Saturday.

FOOTBALL Transfer portal numbers

Here are some eye-opening numbers from the Athletic’s Matt Olson about the start of this spring transfer portal window:

  • By 10:30 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday, 90 scholarship players had entered the portal. The significance? On the opening date of the spring window last year, 90 players entered in total.
  • The first-day total: 221 FBS scholarship players entered the portal. That breaks down to 105 Power 4 transfers and 116 from the Group of 5.

  • More than 20 percent of the first-day entries were repeat transfers.

  • Colorado had nine players enter on Tuesday, including six who had transferred in for Year 1 under Deion Sanders. 👀

  • The total number of FBS scholarship transfers in this cycle (which began Aug. 1, 2023) has surpassed 2,100. That’s a 25 percent increase from last year’s total at this time.

FB RECRUITING What’s happening in Ohio?

Or more appropriately, what’s not happening in Ohio? Other than our commit Jon Stephens, there doesn’t appear to be any other offers. There are number of well regarded Ohio prospects that seemingly have the academics for NU:

Tyler Kattus (OL) - St. Xavier
Gordy Sulfsted (DL) - St. Xavier
Micah Rice (S) - Archbishop Moeller
Nolan Davenport (OL) - Massillon
Grant Beerman (LB) - Lakota West

Justin Hill out of Winton Woods is a high four star that is probably a bit out of NU’s reach.

Curious as to is handling our Ohio recruiting after the coaching changes? I don’t need to tell anyone here how important Ohio recruiting has been to NU over the years. Hopefully things pick up soon.

FB RECRUITING Northwestern rising to the top for four-star 2025 DE Austin Alexander

DE Austin Alexander is interested in Northwestern's unique blend of academics, football and faith. I talked to the four-star about his offer from the Wildcats and more in this story.

May 4th Tailgate in the West Lot!

Hey Gang,

We wanted to let everyone on the Boards know about an effort in the works by NU Alumni to organize a WNRS Weekend--Women's Non-Revenue Sports--Tailgate in the West Lot of (the ashes of) Ryan Field on May 4th!

The tailgate will start at 9am, ahead of the 1pm Softball game against Indiana and, fingers crossed, the Big Ten Lacrosse Tourney Final for NU at 4:30pm.

We are really hoping to pull in as many folks as possible! If you've always wanted to do a football-style tailgate in the Spring, or you want one last chance to tailgate in the Old West Lot, now's the time! Let's do it up!

Thanks,
Sam, John, and Scuzz/The West Lot Pirates
