Is Gragg Forest Gump?

Stupid is as stupid does. But just continues to blunder into things turning out well. Luckiest AD in the country.

Screwed up baseball coach situation -- but overshadowed by Fitz

Screwed up handling of Fitz (in Europe on vacation, not even present), but Braun pulled off the miracle season, overshadowing Gragg incompetence.

Incompetent on basketball -- but CCC has led team to two impressive NCAA berths.

And was equally rudderless on the stadium renovation and where we were going to play this year -- but the powers that be moved them to what could be an incredible lakefront facility for NC games plus Wrigley/Soldier/Lambeau for some conference games.

And WLax remains dominant and other teams are solid too.

What seems to happen time and time again is the guy is clueless or not present -- but then factors -- wholly unrelated to him end up working out great for NU.

Might make it impossible to get rid of the guy as he takes "credit" for these accomplishments in NU Athletics that happened in spite of him not because him.

Thank You Sully

Thank you Brendan Sullivan for representing the program and the institution so well during your time at NU. You endured a lot--injuries, coaching changes, team turnover, and worked hard to overcome these challenges and have some exciting moments on the field. You certainly have this fan's respect. Godspeed to you. May you always be a Wildcat.

New ND sports facility - for body fabrication and augmented reality

Gotta keep up with the Joneses but they just keep on Jonesing…

“The facility will include an advanced training room; a stand-alone sports medicine facility; an equipment facility with body scanning and fabrication technology; a new and expanded locker room; meeting rooms, including a two-level, all-team auditorium and an augmented reality walkthrough room; media innovation spaces, including recording studios and photo studios; academic support spaces; and a new player nutrition area designed to foster community between teams and model healthy eating.”

New coach Bill O'Boyle's offensive line a work in progress

@lou v talked to new offensive line coach Bill O'Boyle and veteran left tackle Caleb Tiernan at spring practice on Saturday. Read here about the new era and philosophy for Northwestern up front.

2026 DT King Liggins 'liked everything' about Northwestern visit

Northwestern hosted 2026 three-star DT King Liggins from Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice at their April 20 spring practice. I talked to Liggins about his visit, nearby family ties and his recruitment.

Our guy is in the portal: Malik Mack, Harvard

17, 4, and 5 as a freshman. 34% from 3. As a freshman.

In his neatly symmetrical braids, the shifty lefty uses hesis, crossovers and footwork to break down defenders as a member of the Harvard Crimson. Mack, a six-foot-one freshman, scores at will and possesses elite point guard vision.

No comment on whether his smile tilts up on the side a bit, or how good he is at the Griddy, or whether his older brother is the all-time leading scorer somewhere.

This. Is. Our. Guy.

FB RECRUITING Potential Transfer Tracker

With transfer season upon us, figured it was time to start up a potential tracker. Sorry if I’m stepping on your toes @CoralSpringsCat ;)

As usually, I usually try not sharing a player unless there’s a tangible reason to think NU could/should get involved.

Hyper-productive dual threat from Holy Cross, apparently played his post-grade year at the Peddie School under Chris Malleo. Somewhat concerning that there are zero academic accolades mentioned in his Holy Cross bio.

FB RECRUITING QB commit Marcus Romain at Rivals Camp Series Atlanta

QB commit Marcus Romain, who is now a three-star, was at the Rivals Camp Series event in Atlanta over the weekend. He gets a mention in this QB Recruiting Rumor Mill story with some encouraging words about NU. We also now have a camp picture of him.

A visit to Northwestern in March was all Romain needed to feel comfortable with committing to the Wildcats. Romain is in close contact with the coaching staff. Running backs coach Chris Foster, offensive coordinator Zach Lujan and head coach David Braun are continuing to build strong relationships with Romain, who initially had concerns about the inner workings of the program in the wake of the Pat Fitzgerald firing last offseason.

Romain has gone over the changes Braun has made in the program with current and former players along with the coaching staff, and he feels great about the direction of Northwestern’s football program.

Question about logistics of player declaring for portal

If a player declares for the portal, does he immediately lose his scholarship for the next quarter/semester? I would assume that they would no longer participate in practices but would they have access to the weight room, meals, tutors, or training facilities? It they decide to withdraw from the portal after declaring, would the university have the option to deny them returning on scholarship?
