Question for the lawyers on the board

I read the article in this morning's Trib referencing Nathan Fox and others joining the lawsuit. Like everyone, I have opinions, but before getting into those, I wanted to ask about something in the story.
First it says:
In a move with wide-ranging implications for all the lawsuits, a judge ruled last month that the hazing accusers’ cases should, for now, be consolidated with the Fitzgerald case.
Than it says:
Attorney Dan Webb, who represents Fitzgerald, had no immediate comment. But in announcing Fitzgerald’s lawsuit against the school last year, Webb said he hadn’t surfaced any evidence of hazing among the Wildcat squad.
He painted the accusers as opportunistic, saying, “People will think there’s a chance to get a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, and they will file lawsuits that are not merited.”
Does this mean
a) Webb had no choice as to whether the cases would be consolidated?
b) Webb has changed his tune about the accusers, and is now willing to work with them?
c) Webb still thinks the accusers are greedy opportunists but is willing to work with them anyway because it will put NU in such a trick bag that it will help his/Fitz's case?
or
d) Something my non-lawyerly mind has not thought of?

OT: Women's Lacrosse

There are only six Big Ten schools that have women's lacrosse teams - NU, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan - and John's Hopkins. Given Title IX and the requirement to balance male/female participation, it would seem like there would be more teams. I know the sport's roots are East Coast/NY/NJ/MD, but the sport has developed at schools such as Stanford and the University of Denver along with plenty of other schools at all levels. Schools like Nebraska are hyper focused on women's sports but even they don't field a team. Thoughts? It would be great if the Big Ten fielded a complete compliment of teams. Need to look up whether there are teams at the new ex-Pac XII teams coming on.

Transfers and NIL

Interesting piece in The Athletic today about the market value for hoops transfers. According to several anonymous agents, the going rate for a starter is $200-300,000, for an all-league caliber potential player $500,000+. Boo was almost certainly a bargain last season. He left a lot on the table to stay at NU.

An old timer’s dream come true … sort of.

Spent the morning at the Norris Aquatics Center. My 8 year old grand daughter is a swimmer in NU’s junior program. Can’t tell you how cool it was to see her compete with the block N on her suit and cap. Finished 2nd in the 10 and under division in both her 50 meter free and breast stroke events. Going up against other junior programs including ones from New Trier and Glenbard.

Probably the closest I will ever come to seeing family competing for my school. But I’ll take it. Made for a great weekend in Evanston with the lacrosse and softball teams winning BIG championships.

FOOTBALL How did Northwestern do in the spring portal window?

Rivals' Jacey Zembal gave the Cats a B- for their spring portal additions. That doesn't sound very good, but only two programs earned a better grade, and no one got an A. Must be a tough grader.

Here’s a QB for you..

Dermanicus Davis QB. Washington

“The 6-foot-4.5, 190-pounder is a smooth, natural passer. He has an effortless, tight throwing motion that points to a projectable upside as a passer. The throwing motion and ability to manipulate trajectory with a high release point remind us of CJ Stroud at the same stage.”

Entered portal April 23, 2024. Pay the man and Let’s Goooo!
