I think it’s ultimately the security blanket of “at least we do things the right way” while another dumpster fire 1-11 program gets more media coverage, more recruiting prowess, and whose stock is more on the up and up.
It’s an attempt at manufacturing a moral victory instead of tipping your cap and being happy for the arguably the only P5 program that was as bad as ours over the past few seasons.

"Bad culture" is the catch-all excuse levied by those who did not fit the culture or could not meet the standards of performance. I have seen this movie many times. It always has the same ending.

He did support HBCUs. He did a lot for an HBCU that hadn’t done much and gave them national attention. You're knocking him because he got offered a huge job offer a took it? Dude was a HS coordinator four years ago.
And I mean, yeah, they went 4-8. Lost a bunch of one-score games. Ran out of gas a few times. That is still an improvement over 1-11, and they’re already 5-2 this year. How is that bad?
Listen, there are a lot of reasons people don't like Deion. It should be obvious to anybody, even his fans. People already disliked him for being extremely, legendarily cocky and flashy. Then he became the absolute avatar of transfer portal, running guys off, and NIL play, so all the people who hated that lined up against him. Then it turned out both of his sons are pretty big pieces of shit, one in particular, and that he's generally been involved in aiding and abetting this. Then there's the weird softness with the media (this is where he really lost me, IMO, if you're gonna be literally the most brash and cocky sports figure of all time you can't ALSO be thin-skinned and soft at the first whiff of criticism... that betrays a gross insecurity newspapered over by all this narcissism).
Sports media loves a villain, so we're gonna get to keep watching this either way. For me... I think Colorado is lucky to be in the Big 12 and out of a conference stacked with NFL QBs like they were last year.

Thanks. I do wish my dad was around to weigh in. I think he would enjoy the winning, for sure. The McCartney era wasn’t the most savory in some ways so Buffs fans have been willing to look away from certain things when they are winning.
PSU, ASU, Auburn, Miami to name a few. It was a lot easier to know which teams to dislike before the rules changed. I dislike Deon because of things he did well before CU.

Football wise, yes, but not like HUGELY.
Personal life wise with raising dirtbag kids who beat up security guards and then helping them try to use family businesses and charities to hide assets from the ensuing personal injury lawsuits, yes.
That case is a joke and perfect example of what the legal industry has sunk to. Now the kids are trash but that guard and that whole case is a blight on our society.

I've been to a few games this year and last year - not gonna lie, there was been some pretty significant improvement as a team compared to last year. Pretty impressive, especially around discipline and penalties. Still way too many but WAY better than last year.
Rumor has it that Julian Lewis may flip from USC to Colorado. Sounds like between them and Georgia. I think he is a damn good prospect, and would be as big of a prospect as Trevor Lawrence if he was 2 inches taller.
Their oline coach from last year is NU’s oline this year. For Colorado, Could be a case of addition by subtraction

They are winning in spite of him. He hasn’t beaten one ranked openent in the watered down B1G12. Will be interesting to see where he is coaching next season after his son’s and Travis Hunter graduate.
He will probably be coaching the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, he is a jerk, but to say they win despite him sounds like the Fitz haters that think he did nothing in building the program. They have a real shot at the playoffs and that’s with a couple ultra talented players ( that wouldn’t be there without him) and not a heck of a lot more. Sounds like he is at least partially responsible for their success.
Indiana went from 3-9 to 11-1 in one season without all the hype in a tougher conference. Much more impressive.

No there was not. Will be interesting to see what happens next year (and the next few years). Not sure if the Deon model is sustainable. We shall see.

Cignetti is 63 and just signed an 8 year contract. Never say never but I’m pretty confident he isn’t going anywhere. Deon on the other hand….
Deon is definitely moving on, probably after this year. He should, he is in demand.

The haters don’t like him because he is a jerk. Cig did exactly the same thing with raiding his former team and others in the portal. Some can’t get over this being allowable let alone the quickest way to be relevant. Cig is a jerk too, but he isn’t as flamboyant so he gets more of a pass.

Cignetti got a ridiculous deal that takes him to retirement and he almost certainly won’t be fired for the inevitable regression. It wasn’t charity or sentimentality.
Even Fitz, who was the poster child of loyalty, signed an extension that would have made him the fourth highest paid coach in the Big Ten I believe by 2025 and 2028. More than one of: Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Penn State.
Coaches having success and making more is a good thing.
I’m not mad about it. He is not unlike many other coaches who profess allegiance to their current school before bolting. It is what it is.
