He and his crew clearly identified themselves as working journalists live on the air. Omar personally made clear they would move wherever the police wanted them to move.
Didn't matter. Police arrested them and would not reply when asked why they were being arrested. Another CNN reporter nearby, this one white, and his crew, were treated totally differently by the police. Totally unacceptable.

This is obviously a terrible and unacceptable situation, but given that this thread is on the hoops board, I will offer a bit of levity:
In a discussion on the Iowa board about this, after someone noted that Omar had played hoops at NU, someone else responded: "And yet the girl who shrieks throughout the entire game still walks free."

I overlapped at NU with Omar by a little bit, didn't know him that well but knew him briefly through some friends of mine on the team. Total class act and everyone who knows him loves him.
Yes he did show class in his interview last night and he also wore a PURPLE sweater!

Just heard on the SCORE this morning that CNN has told him not to talk to the press or give interviews. Somewhat odd, yes? No?
As crazy as it might seem in today's climate, there are still some reporters and outlets that don't want to make the stories about themselves. Perhaps CNN is trying to hold to that old standard.
Especially when journalists all across the country are being targeted with arrests, rubber bullets and pepper spray (VICE put up a small supercut earlier). It's sad, but Omar giving interviews could actually make journalists even more unsafe.
All around the world. Two Aussie journalists were attacked today by security forces.
Omar did everyone proud (still, unfortunate that he and his colleagues had to experience that).
But as already noted, reporters have been getting harassed, if not physically attacked.
Not surprising in a world where the Orange Clown takes glee in the prospect of people getting shot or attacked by the most viscous dogs (don't think it's any coincidence that these words harken back to the civil rights era).
