This is nuts. I hope Omar is okay.
Total bullshit by the police. I'm going to unload on the Rant Board.
Just do it today, don’t wait for tomorrow...Total bullshit by the police. I'm going to unload on the Rant Board.
Touche. This is obviously a terrible and unacceptable situation, but given that this thread is on the hoops board, I will offer a bit of levity:
In a discussion on the Iowa board about this, after someone noted that Omar had played hoops at NU, someone else responded: "And yet the girl who shrieks throughout the entire game still walks free."
And the officers who arrested him were, of course, white. He and his crew clearly identified themselves as working journalists live on the air. Omar personally made clear they would move wherever the police wanted them to move.
Didn't matter. Police arrested them and would not reply when asked why they were being arrested. Another CNN reporter nearby, this one white, and his crew, were treated totally differently by the police. Totally unacceptable.
Yes he did show class in his interview last night and he also wore a PURPLE sweater!Omar is a rising star! Hope he gets his own show eventually on cnn! Class act all the way.

Sure sounds like that is what he's doing!I'd prefer he continue his intellectual growth
Just heard on the SCORE this morning that CNN has told him not to talk to the press or give interviews. Somewhat odd, yes? No?Here is an article from InsideNU on Omar when he was a sophomore. Very impressive young man.

As crazy as it might seem in today's climate, there are still some reporters and outlets that don't want to make the stories about themselves. Perhaps CNN is trying to hold to that old standard.Just heard on the SCORE this morning that CNN has told him not to talk to the press or give interviews. Somewhat odd, yes? No?

Especially when journalists all across the country are being targeted with arrests, rubber bullets and pepper spray (VICE put up a small supercut earlier). It's sad, but Omar giving interviews could actually make journalists even more unsafe.
Guess they won't be puttin' a couple a shrimp on the Bar-B tonite.....All around the world. Two Aussie journalists were attacked today by security forces.
