BREAKING: NU lands three-star Ohio TE Tyler Kielmeyer

Recruitable tight ends are generally great athletes who can move all over the field.

I’m happy with three TEs and two QBs in every class, understanding that all might move elsewhere.

Give me athletes with good offer lists. Seems like all three fit the bill.
while in general that might be true, we really have not seen much of that lately at NU. It seems like it has been a really long time since we have had a TE recruit change positions

Renderings of 2026 stadium

I have to believe there is a lot of people that even though they give to the athletics program generally, don't like the idea of giving to pay athletes directly. I don't make a dent in anything with what I give, but I have questions if I will even be a supporter at all in the future once player are getting paid directly by the school. I think I would rather see college athletics go in the opposite direction where there are no scholarships, and only people that want to school there actually play for the school.
I’ve heard this from several people actually and feel it myself to a degree. Bankrolling specific athletes would be essentially the minor leagues, officially. We will see where the proposed NIL legislation goes in 2025…

Deja Vu? Utah State fires football coach

NU football is definitely not “a clown” compared to Utah State. NU is coming off a bowl win, with tremendous recruiting momentum, two years coming of a unique stadium situation, followed by opening what will become the model for every college football stadium to follow. NU football is in its best position since its coach, ironically, said “I’m staying here for life” or whatever.

Do you really think he “looked into allegations on his own”? Or do you think he downplayed to keep a player eligible?

There is no comparison to what happened at USU and at NU. Sounds like a USU football player was accused of sexual assault or rape, the allegation was brought to the football coach, and he “investigated” (“hey 24, did you rape this chick” “okay great”) and didn’t move any further.

Or, perhaps, he coordinated with the other two who were also fired to downplay or bury the story. He prevented an investigation from happening. Nobody is saying “he should have known” an off-premise assault may have occurred; they are saying that he violated policy by not involving the right people. (It’s what Paterno should’ve been fired for, kind of, before he mercifully died to spare himself the embarrassment.)

In the case of NU, the activity was happening in Fitz’s building. “Known or should have known” is a reasonable threshold when it’s happening down the hall.

Anyway, the university is financially solvent, the stadium is on track, the new head coach has all the positive qualities the former coach once had.

The Fitz firing was a tremendous change that, once everyone got over the shock, energized the program and contributed to what appears to be a recruiting class stacked with A-listers.

AND, Fitz will be able to attend his son’s regular season and playoff games all season long without openly shirking his responsibilities as a head football coach!

Gosh winning is so fun.
This issue goes away if police are allowed / required to investigate allegations of rape / sexual assault on campus

Northwestern publishes report by Loretta Lynch on culture of athletics

What’s your point of reference? We’re you a NU athlete? I can tell you that people that weren’t in a college athletics program way underestimate the amount of time you spend with teammates. Basically mandatory practice or game requirement while students are in breaks. Summer’s are all but mandatory. The population of students for My winter breaks consisted of athletes and international students. Everyone else was partying on NYE.

It’s this arrogance of “ we’ve historically tried to put ourselves at a higher standard regarding our student athletes’ that turns off local. non NU alum. It makes some people feel better around here. The facts are there are plenty of strong academic athletes at every Big Ten school. I wish I could buy into your vision of NU Shangra La, but to me it is complete BS.
1) It’s definitely true that we hold ourselves to a higher standard… and we live it! Look at the academic awards, the fact we don’t take “minimum qualifiers” (like every other B1G schools including good academic schools overall like Wisconsin and Michigan) and the fact our players almost never get in trouble with the law. Who was the last football player who did? That DT in 2013 who sold coke? And 2) I don’t think it turns anyone off. I think it actually brings people in because they want to root for something “good”/“old school” in the ever-changing semi-pro landscape of college sports. Also, regarding #2, I’m a local, non-alum fan and have always been attracted to NU because of that and I personally know two more local, non-alum who would say the same. Let’s not over analyze this. NU still does it the right way despite how college sports is changing - for the worse in my opinion.

Amen. What allegedly happened at NU under Fitz was a minor thing that no one would have cared about 10-15 years ago. This is way, way, way worse. Having players sexually assault the public… not good!

Wrigley Field ticket prices….

"Reserved" tix for ILL are 60-250. Then there are upsell tix like Wilson Club, Canadian Club, American Airlines etc that go up to 450. As you all know, the venue sucks, so I won't beat that with a ...club.

I bought upper deck endzone for $100 each. I want to actually see the game and was worried about the sightlines from the lower deck

No interest in joining the OSU yahoos but they were somewhat more $
