My column: Puzzling decisions show that Braun is still learning on the job

Lots of topics in the piece, @lou v.

Maybe I’m naive, but I really hope NU doesn’t go portal-hopping for a QB. On the offense, WR and OL have to be the peak priorities in the portal. (Is it ten catches between non-Kirtz, non-Henning WRs?)

If NU has the ball inside their own ten inside of a minute left in the half, I really hope the lesson has finally been learned.
Every position on offense is a priority in the portal.

Tony Bennett Retirement

Collins calls himself an ACC guy, UVA has a higher ceiling than we do and you figure Scheyer will be in the Duke job a long time ... plus Charlottesville is a nice place to live. I hope their interim can just lock up the job.
Collins’s dad and family and network are all in Chicago.

He will leave for Duke, the NBA, or nothing else. He loves Chicago. Unlike Fitz.

End of the Prime mystique

Sorry for your loss. I'm curious as to whether the majority of older (60+) CU alumni are anti-prime because he's flashy and represents a new world of NIL college football or if they are happy to be relevant. Colorado is ranked and is 5-2 for the first time since 2005. Donations are up across the board so I'm assuming a good chunk is the latter but I'm sure there's a good percentage of older alumni who would appreciate a more conservative Jim Tressell sweater-vest or a Dabo Swinney (no portal) approach. In other words, how much of the anti-prime sentiment is generational?
Thanks. I do wish my dad was around to weigh in. I think he would enjoy the winning, for sure. The McCartney era wasn’t the most savory in some ways so Buffs fans have been willing to look away from certain things when they are winning.

End of the Prime mystique

He did support HBCUs. He did a lot for an HBCU that hadn’t done much and gave them national attention. You're knocking him because he got offered a huge job offer a took it? Dude was a HS coordinator four years ago.

And I mean, yeah, they went 4-8. Lost a bunch of one-score games. Ran out of gas a few times. That is still an improvement over 1-11, and they’re already 5-2 this year. How is that bad?
It’s not bad . I wish NU was 5-2. I guess if you don’t care how the sausage is made, then ok.

Deon reminds me of somebody in the news…

Zoom In-Game Discussion: NU at Iowa Saturday Oct 26 2:30 PM CT

If you are a Northwestern fan and watching the game on TV (or streaming it), you are welcome to join us for a live Zoom discussion during the game. It's a great way to share the experience with others as you watch.

One thing you should be aware of is that TV and streaming are not always in sync with real time. It is not unusual for some viewers to be 30 seconds ahead of others, which leads to an interesting dynamic during the game watch. You can often tell by the reactions of others if something good or bad is about to happen. To me, it just makes it more interesting.

I hope that you can join us on via Zoom on Saturday at 2:30 PM CT.

Open Practice Today From 4 - 5 For STH

I thought Matt's shooting touch from 10-12 feet looked good in the pick and roll drills for the big guys. I suspect he has worked hard at it.
It looks like they've been running those drills a fair bit for him, Keenan, and Luke.

If we ever see Gus in a game, I'll bet he gets off at least one of those bunny hooks because he's definitely been working on those.

Thanks, I appreciate the update. (Who is Gus by the way?)
Gus Hurlburt, the kid from North Dakota?

Ty Berry looked ready to go and I believe he will be a focal point of the offense. I thought Clayton looked improved and Chris Collins had some praise for Mullins. Nicholson moves really well for a big guy. I just wish he had a better touch on his shots, although he did show a little half hook with his left hand that could help. I don't expect much immediate help from the Frosh. This team will go as far as the veterans and two transfers will take us, and we can't afford injuries to key guys that we managed to survive last year.
