Game Thread: Northwestern vs. No. 20 Purdue

Just think - a week ago the consensus seemed to be that Ciaravino and Windham were nowhere near ready to play at a Big Ten level.
Or maybe just a vocal minority voicing that old party line ("If they're not playing, they're not ready" 😠)
Some of us got what we were asking for - and now it should be pretty obvious that those 2 can do things that others can't.
Ciaravino seems to be able to get an open look whenever he wants to. Can anybody else say that? He also has a nose for the ball and the ability to score.
Windham is probably the best ballhandler on the team. He defends and sees the court pretty well.
Those skills shouldn't be parked on the bench.

Not happy with the coach today. It looked to me like he gave up before any of the players.

On the other side, Painter apparently put 3 guys on Barney and Martinelli. Given our limitations on offense, that was an excellent move.
What you said about Ciaravino getting an open look whenever he wanted to was exactly my observation. That is a rarity against top tier competition and we should exploit that given he's shown he can shoot. He's also bouncy getting numerous put backs at the rim. This team can use whatever cheap points it can find.

You are better than this PWB. After every game there is extraordinary recency bias. I can guarantee you that if Jell-O shots 20% and KJ turns the ball over the critics will say they shouldn’t be anywhere near the court. IMO, the truth is somewhere in between what critics of players say and what advocates of that player say. There are good games and bad games. Berry was Steph Curry after the NE game and Jack Haley after this game.

How did the HC quit today? Big Matt was useless and Berry reverted back to doing nothing as well. If anything forcing his hand with Jello and KJ. If he kept rolling with them, and tried nothing that’s quitting. I was pleased he put both on the pine and wished he glued Hunger there too. That doesn’t mean I don’t want them right back in the lineup next game!

Horrible games happen every year.

I posted Ciaravino's numbers and an argument that he should be getting playing time before the Penn State loss.
And stated that Windham may have to play the point because I wasn't sure Leach could handle pressure (after seeing the Northeastern game in person)

Benching Nicholson for lethargic play early in the game is akin to quitting. The problems were elsewhere.

Rashawn Slater heading to the Pro Bowl

Rashawn inactive today-"tightness knee"
He was supposed to play today but injured his knee during warmups so didn’t play. Chargers are coasting to a win anyway over the Raiders.
QB Herbert from Oregon is having a solid season, the offense scored on 7 possessions today.. Subs have stepped up today. Hopefully Rashawn will be healthy enough to start against Houston. Defense has been playing well. Solid regular season for the Chargers under Harbaugh.

SDSU OG transfers to NU

That would be tough, as I have him on ignore.

I just think it's funny, and also a bit head-scratching, that certain Rock subscribers occasionally have nothing better to do than to come onto the free board to point out what they think the Unwashed are missing.

I read and comment on all the forums. I make no judgement relative to whether others pay for the blog site. That's the way it's structure so that's cool. But someone(s) has to pay the freight so my choice is to help pay for the journalists here plus it gives me the opportunity to have a conversation with NU sports fans. I mentioned that the info was on The Rock earlier because it was a fact and many posters here are members there.

It’s Fine

We have other guys that can score. Berry needs to be better consistently (admittedly, I’m losing faith he can be a consistent scorer), but Leach can score and in certain matchups, Nicholson can be that guy too. Jelo and Windham are getting valuable experience too.

It was just a bad game. I know you always look at things in a negative light, but no reason to overreact at this point.
We aren’t going to win games when we have 2 starters both in their 5th year in the program that combined for 0 points, 2 Rebounds, and 1 Assist for a game.

Sign Of The Times

Rashada is back in the portal after serving as Georgia’s third stringer this year.

He transferred when ASU brought in someone to compete with him (Sam Leavitt, MSU, same class) and now is transferring because he’s behind Stockton at Georgia.

It’s a shame that so many kids don’t want to compete for a role. He could’ve spent a year handing to Skattebo, getting better as the year went on, and playing in the CFP. (Leavitt was…fine this year. Rashada could’ve competed and won, unless he was ‘asked to leave’ for being me-first.)

Oh well.

He’s gotten lots of bad advice. I still hope he wins his lawsuit.
