Northwestern's 2025 transfer portal outlook

Keeping Hurlburt (and Smith, but especially Hurlburt) in a now-limited roster spot instead of bringing in another player who can actually help, like a playable big, would be boneheaded.
If I read that right, NU is going to maintain the 13 scholarship limit, so Smith and Gus as walk-ons makes sense unless Collins finds an unknown stud among the other gym rats.

Wetzel: In the NIL era, great hoops coaches still finding a way

Hmmmm...interesting that all the teams in the final 16 are from the big conferences. Even playing field? Hardly. Free transfer and NIL money are tilting the playing field. Duke has a loaded roster. Their two games this weekend were BORING unless you are a Duke fan.
The highest seed in the second weekend this year is 10 seeded Arkansas, the next is 6 seeded BYU/Ole Miss. When was the last time the Sweet 16 was comprised of four 1 seeds, three 2 seeds, two 3 seeds, three 4 seeds, one 5 seed, two 6 seeds, and a 10 seed?

St John's really dropped the ball for the elites.

Coaching carousel

Still nothing from Villanova. I'm not going to relax until they hire someone else or NU announces a Collins extension.
At least it makes sense that VU is delayed. If Willard and Cronin are both realistic possibilities, then VU needs to wait - especially for Willard. Not only does he play another weekend, but the Maryland AD took another job "Friday." I assume everyone knew earlier.

If they wanted CC, he would've signed by now.

So the first round is complete

I can’t agree ole buddy. Has any conference ever got 7 teams in the sweet 16? We can agree their bottom half teams aren’t anything special, but even a 10th seeded Arkansas made the final 16. They are buying their way into prominence.
Has any conference been given 14 bids? And seeding was often in their favor as well.

The SEC has 7 of the final 16. They are killing it. I hate the SEC and their condescending fans as much as the next guy, but any conversation that they are underperforming is just false. Let’s hope we don’t have an all SEC final 4!
The complaint was that they did not deserve to have 14 teams in (sorry but 6-12 teams do not deserve to be in. Argument can be made for some 8-10 teams but not 6-12) and BIG deserved more than they got. Only big surprises in the tourney so far is a couple of 12s won in first round and Arkansas. Sort of disappointing.

And couple BIG games have been pretty close including WIS loss and Oregon's loss to Arizona which would have swung things, With those games going other way we would have been talking 7 and 6. (Other side is MD coming up big in last few seconds )

So the first round is complete

Well, maybe they are not really under performing, but they aren't really killing it. They are performing the way the Big Ten has been performing. Both conferences got half of their teams to the sweet 16
