Who will be second in scoring this year?

Berry, Leach, or Martinelli have received all of the votes so far (well, one for Barnhizer, but presumably that would mean one of these three LED the team in scoring).

So I would be fascinated to see what would happen if someone else were in the top two in scoring for this team. Like some teams have superstar freshmen...why not us and Windham? Of course, no one expects it, but it's possible I suppose. Or maybe Nicholson worked so hard on his game that he's got 12-foot jumpers and better free-throw shooting and he's ready to be an unstoppable big man?

Mostly I'm just excited for basketball season and to see what new (or new and improved) presents we have under the tree.

It’s an attempt at manufacturing a moral victory instead of tipping your cap and being happy for the arguably the only P5 program that was as bad as ours over the past few seasons.

Not really. It was all the “we coming” and then they go 4-8. Also “we need to support HBCUs” and then he bolts to Colorado.

With NIL and the transfer portal, his schtick could work long term. Time will tell.

Henning appeared to be an arm or shoulder. Mueller hurt his right knee when he was cut blocked on a blitz.

I was talking about past recruits under Fitz. Many of the guys who ended up at NU had other BIG offers (and other P4 offers). The recruits NU is getting now have MAC offers.

Not accurate. A good anecdotal sample would be to look at where recruits/players landed for the kids that left in the immediate aftermath of Fitz’s firing. Those players were highly in demand on a national level.

Fitz wasn’t winning any real recruiting battles for skill positions.

Yes, he’d get a LB (the four star guy who transferred to OSU and then came back) or a DE (several four stars), 5 star LT (Skow) but we never had a 4 star RB to my knowledge, the only 5 star WR was Prater and that was via transfer, of course, and the 4 star QB was Thorson and no one else.

You have to win those skill position recruiting battles. Fitz’s football mentality was stuck in the mid-90s. Wanted to win close, low scoring games. 1) Very difficult to do consistently and 2) kids do NOT want to play in those offenses.

Lujan has been a clown, so far, but his offense on paper can be exciting which should help with recruiting.

Star ratings are less relevant than who we were competing with for recruits. That’s a much better indication of the caliber of recruits. having said that, Justin Jackson was a four star recruit that was highly recruited. Larkin and Porter were highly recruited backs. On the receiver side guys like Ebert, Kirtz and McGowan come to kind as highly recruited players but I am sure I am missing several others.

Not sure who you are referring to about the Lb that went to OSU and came back but if you mean Glover that whole sequence happensd because of and after Fitz’s firing.

We’ll see. I hope NU doesn’t bend over and settle and actually fights this. Sure, it’s riskier from a $ perspective it’s worth the juice to save face and set the record straight.

Why do you want to win with lowering standards? That will cheapen our wins. When you’re doing it the right way, as we do and always will, thankfully, our wins means a whole lot more.

As I’ve said before, I’m a longtime non-alum NU fan. My grandpa and grandma had season tickets for over 50+ after settling down initially in Evanston and then Glenview. They taught me, rightfully, that NU did things the right way and while we would have a lot of “lean” years they would have some great ones too and those would be celebrated even more because of how they had to come together - i.e. real students, held to high standards, not cheating.

First star ratings are not everything. That said, you still probably ought to get your facts straight. Tyus was a 4 star. Justin Jackson was 4 star and a pretty fair RB. Larkin and Porter were rated 5.7 which is just below 4 star. Even Hull rated 2 star was a pretty fair RB. At QB Alviti was a 4 star. And they did bring in some transfers at QB that were highly rated in the cases of HJ (5 star) and Hillinsky (4 star) but also found guys that could effectively run the O in Ramsey and Bryant who tons of programs were going after. Flurema was a 4 star WR. And Ulein and Saka were 4 stars at LB. Skoronski was 4 star as was Teirman on OL.

First it was a he's bad coach even though he took over a team that went 1-11 the previous year and won 4 games his first year and now is sitting ranked at 5-2 and his teams have shown steady improvement. Now, it's he's going to leave or has ruined the culture of the aforementioned 1-11 Buffs. He's polarizing like the 2024 election. People have their minds made up. I'm super curious if it's generational, racial, his brash personality or some combo of the three. I'm less inclined to think it's race related for the CU alumni because the Buffs have a history of hiring African-American coaches and I can't remember any of them getting this level of hate.

I think we can expect an average of 12 ppg from each of them, again with some meandering, which doesn't bode well for lots of wins unless we get some solid help from a couple of other guys every game.
