The broadcasters and postgame commentators cited the Cats’ 17-3 advantage in turnovers to explain how the Cats won the game against Purdue. As amazing as it was to only have 3 turnovers (with Buie handling the ball flawlessly), if I read the play by play correctly, of the 3 turnovers they committed, two were offensive fouls, one on Barnhizer and one on Berry, and the only loss of the ball on the floor was a pass that Berry made that the Boilers jumped the passing lane with 12:17 to go in the first half. This team truly seems to be the good hands people!
I would add as a Cats’ fan that I thought both offensive foul calls were a little questionable, though consistent with how the officials called the game.

Looked about 60/40 NU fans on TV. The blackout of course helps mask it all.

The Purdue contingent certainly was loud so I could imagine it being closer to 50/50.

Anybody else notice the quick shake and run Fickell gave Braun after the game. Like it was beneath him to have to do it.

I was going to overlook that. Until I saw his post game press conference. He said the game was an embarrassment and then went straight to questions. Never once over the course of almost 20 minutes did he mention Braun or the Cats or otherwise give them any credit.

Memo to Lousy Loser. One of the great things about football is that the better team wins 90+ percent of the time. That’s what happened today.

Hawkeyes are a bad football team with the worst QB in the Big Ten. The guy can’t throw and too slow to run. Who the hell wants a 260 pound quarterback I can’t throw or run. Hard to believe that Hawkeyes don’t have someone on the bench better than Hill.

Cats are a better team and should have beat them at Wrigley.

OK, let’s see if we’ve got this straight. Deion Sanders, the Colorado football coach who built this year’s team with a herd of transfers from other schools, is complaining about players not living up to their commitments, about players who changed their minds and no longer want to join his team.

After a prize recruit “de-committed” from Colorado recently and elected to “reopen” his recruiting to other schools, Sanders ripped the system. He called for the NCAA to prevent players from breaking their commitments.

“A kid ain’t even faithful to his girlfriend. You think (he’s) gonna be faithful to a school? Come on, man. That’s an emotional thing,” Sanders told The Athletic.

Continuing, he said, “What I wish the NCAA would do, if you’re committed somewhere, you can’t go on any other visits. If you’re committed, that means you’re committed. You can’t go on no other visits. Why would you be committed but you’re still letting kids go on other visits? That means you just playing.”

Fun game between Bama and UGA today. Now you have 3 12-1 teams who can claim to deserve a playoff spot: Texas, who beat Bama; Bama, who beat UGA; and UGA, defending champs. Will be interesting to see what the Committee does. I suspect they will put a current SEC team in rather than a future team, given strength of schedule. Bama gets the nod.

Edey sure makes that team go.

Officiating perplexed me at times.

Ty Berry=complete basketball player

Boo is my all-time favorite NU hoops player. What he does in the paint continually amazes me.

Too bad Hunger missed all that time last season. He can play. Just needs time on the court.

Preston did a great job defending Edey in OT.

Premature storming of the court was the funniest thing I have ever seen at an NU game.

I knew the night was going to be special when that guy hit the half court shot at halftime.

The highlight of the evening was Uber telling a Purdue fan to stop whining and shut up.

Northwestern (5-1) hosts No. 1 Purdue (7-0) at Welsh-Ryan Arena tonight at 8 p.m. The game will air on BTN.

The Wildcats are off to a solid start this season, picking up a win over Dayton and dropping their matchup with Mississippi State. I don't need to remind you all what happened the last time No. 1 Purdue came into this building, and I don't need to remind the Boilermakers out there. They'll be out for vengeance, and the Wildcats will have their toughest test of the season by far before they take a nine-day break for finals.

Watching pregame show. 20 minutes in and not a single word about Iowa. Nada.

It's deja vu all over again, and No. 1 Purdue is coming to Welsh-Ryan Arena. Northwestern basketball had a brief media availability today, here are our takeaways from Chris Collins' remarks.

I assume this was Braun’s first sold-out basketball game. His first thought must have been that there are more folks here than at the Maryland game. But I hope it was encouraging and motivating to see what the new stadium could become for him. He hasn’t played with a home field
advantage yet.

Wow! Just wow!!

Depending on how the rest of this season goes and the progression of the program going forward, we may look back on last night as one of the most important wins in NU hoops history. That was such an incredibly hard fought victory over an outstanding opponent in the face of multiple moments during that game where it would have been understandable if they gave in. These young men did not!

It did not look good at about the midway point of the first half. Edey was already logging close to a double-double. Half our team was in foul trouble. We couldn't hit a shot and Purdue looked like they were pulling away. I posted in the thread that I thought Purdue was better this year and we may be slightly worse. I really have thought that Chase Audige was the true heart and soul of last year's team despite his wildness. It was not just about his great defense, elite athleticism and occasional crazy scoring bursts. He just carried himself with such a swagger that I always felt gave confidence to the rest of the guys. I was worried that without him, this team might not have the same attitude.

Last night put those concerns to rest!!

For starters, regardless of what happened last year, this is clearly Boo Buie's team. He is the heart, the soul, the guts, the brain and whatever organ you want to pick. That's the kind of clutch performance I have longed to see a guy playing for my school display. How awesome was that?!?

He wasn't alone, though, in showing incredible courage. Ty Berry was fantastic. In that poll on here earlier about who would be our second leading scorer, I picked Ty. That didn't look like such a good prediction early on, but last night Ty came through! He has some of that swagger now.

So does Luke Hunger! The freshman, though physically overmatched, was giving it to Edey while he was in there. He was driving Edey crazy and showed no fear. That was exciting to see. Hopefully he'll keep developing this year, but I have to imagine he got a huge boost of confidence after last night.

Also, hats off to our coaches. What a beautiful game plan. They executed as well as you could on the defensive end, making Edey do all the work. He had a monster game, but one guy, even the great Zach Edey, can't win all by himself. But what was really great was the offense. It is easier to dial up good offense when you have a point guard like Boo, but the creative ways they got him in good matchups was excellent. Other guys also effectively drove with the ball to either set themselves up for a midrange shot or lead to a kickout for an open three. Remember how bad this team was on offense this time last year?? Incredible.

Fun night for sure. I hope this team continues to improve and makes noise again all season. I also hope recruits are taking notice. This is a well run program now with an exciting atmosphere and one of the world's greatest universities. It's time to make Northwestern a true basketball power!!!

There is no detail in BB. For example, in BB now there is no breakdown of points scored. Just the number of points, Not 2/3 from 3, fouls shots taken and made etc. Only points. Not even number of fouls. Plus now they only have this year and last year rather than back as long as Rivals had been around. Same kind of thing has happened with their FB stats. Little better in that has number of carries and receptions but still only goes back two years rather than 10 plus.
