BASKETBALL WildcatReport Tournament Pool Update

Well, I'm not much of a host. I invited everyone to join the WR pool and win a free subscription, and if UConn wins the final tonight, I'll win the title. But if Purdue wins, Kenn (Smelly) will capture the title.

However, because I'm such a selfless, magnanimous person, if UConn wins, I will decline my six free months of WR and pass it along to the runner-up, which will be Dale (Alaskakat).

So, to review:

- If Purdue wins, Kenn is the WR Pool Champ.

- If UConn wins, Alaskakat wins the prize but I get all bragging rights in perpetuity.

Here are the standings if you don't trust me -- and I don't blame you if you don't:

Northwestern 'a no brainer' for PWO QB commit Sean Winton

Northwestern picked up their eighth PWO commitment on April 5th, their first from a quarterback, in Sean Winton from Elmhurst (Ill.) York. I talked to the local QB about his decision to flip his commitment from Dayton, the timeline of his offer and his visit to Northwestern.

Offer to speedy 2025 RB Kolin Wilson continues NU's recruiting trend

I talked to Gulf Shores (Ala.) running back Kolin Wilson on his offer from Northwestern, and wrote about how he continues NU's recent trend towards offering smaller, quicker dual-threat backs from the South.

Mount Rushmore for NUMBB

My top four, in no particular order:
  1. Boo Buie (GOAT)
  2. Billy McKinney
  3. Josh Shurna
  4. Coach Chris Collins (CCC)
Runner-ups? Eschmeyer, Carmody, McIntosh, Tex Winter, Pardon, et cetera.

I am weighting accomplishments at NU heavier than what happened professionally/ in the NBA.

I was torn between Shurna & Eschmeyer. But, after rereading their Wikipedias over the past month, decided on Shurna.

Who’s on your Mount Rushmore? P.S. Happy Easter.

FB RECRUITING 2026 three-star ATH Cornell Conely visits Northwestern

Three-star ATH Cornell Conely is ranked the 9th player in Illinois in the Class of 2026. Northwestern hosted him for a spring practice on April 2, and I talked to him about his impression of the Wildcats, the work left for him to do for an offer, and more.

BASKETBALL Boo Buie named Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year

I thought Buie made real strides defensively and came up clutch multiple times, including with five steals against FAU. Great that he won the award but still a huge surprise. Not sure how many people would even rank him as the team's best defender over Barnhizer, and this puts him on the same level as past Driesell winners like Anthony Davis, Jevon Carter and Matisse Thybulle.
