Don’t Sleep on Maryland

A terrapin is, apparently, some type of turtle. Don’t let them lull you to sleep with their seeming slow speed, Jahmir Young can kill you a lightning first step and get to the rack like nobody else out there. I know Northwestern fans are prone to bouts of overconfidence, hubris, and extremely highly expectations of success, so it’s important we continue to remind ourselves as fans before every game to respect each opponent.

Massive game for securing a double bye and finishing up our tournament hunt. Quad 1 win opportunity.

FOOTBALL NCAA contemplates adding THIRD signing day

I don't think THREE signing days are necessary, but adding one in June would really change the recruiting cycle. I think it's a good idea. The cycle is moving faster and faster. More and more guys are committing in the spring, after they take their officials. Let them sign at that point. It would also greatly cut down on coaches recruiting over kids, and kids losing their scholarship spots (aka getting Harbaughed) later in the cycle.

If they add June, I think they should get rid of December and just go with February. December is busy enough with bowl games, official visits and the coaching carousel in full swing.

This is getting closer and closer to the system Fitz envisioned, where kids could sign just about anytime, after a short "cooling off" period after receiving an offer. (He also favored a nationwide, digital portal to track it all. One thing at a time, I suppose.)

Whatever is relevant to our University,

directly or indirectly, touches athletics in some way, in that they are part of the formation of students' lives. If for example, shootings happened at an athletic event, would that not be fair game for discussion here? One significant barrier to solving our current crisis of deadly confrontation and violence is suppression of discussion about it. And NU is supposed to be a leader in education and problem solving? I'm beginning to question that.

Boo makes 1st team 5th year player

Totally made up category, but still cool to see...

Boo Buie | Northwestern | G | 6-2

18.9 PPG | 5.2 APG | 41.3% 3PT

Buie will end his career as Northwestern's all-time scoring leader. He is a shot-making guru with a knack for coming up big in clutch situations. Buie's leadership has the Wildcats on track to reach consecutive NCAA Tournaments for the first time in program history.

Buie makes Oscar Robertson Trophy/All-America Watch List

Here's the release....

Buie Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List

INDIANAPOLIS –
Northwestern graduate guard Boo Buie has been named to the 2023-24 Oscar Robertson Trophy and All-America Watch List, as announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Buie is averaging 18.9 points and 5.2 assists per game this season and is the only high-major player in the country to average 18+ points and 5+ assists per game this season. During conference-only play, he ranks third in the league averaging 20.3 points and fourth with 5.7 assists per game. This season, he has recorded 10 games recording 15+ points and 7+ assists, which ranks third in the country.

The Albany, N.Y. product became Northwestern's career scoring leader on Feb. 22 against Michigan, reaching 2,050 points, surpassing John Shurna's (2009-12) mark of 2,038 points. Buie also ranks second in program history with 588 assists.

This year, Buie has been named to the Bob Cousy Award and NABC Division I Player of the Year Watch Lists, and earned preseason All-American and a preseason All-Big Ten selection.

The Oscar Robertson Trophy winner is to be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Glendale, Ariz., from April 6-8. The formal presentation of the trophy will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation's oldest award and the only one named after a former player.
