What do they do at the end of the season

I really think Braun has done a good job given the situation. The defense is playing great, again given the personnel he has done more with less. The DL is as thin if not more than the OL but Braun, Vokolek and Smith have gotten way more respectable play out of the DL than Anderson has with the OL.

Somewhat selfishly I would like to see Braun retained as the DC (I say that because it would I’m sure he a pay cut from what he’s getting this year) to see what he can really do if he focuses just on the defense. Paid that with a high profile head coach and an innovative OC and we will be a bowl team in no time.

Now that Bowl Prospects are viable, How Close to New Year's Day Could NU be Bowling?

It looks like the two most likely bowls for Northwestern (as per HTP's Bowl Projections) are both on the day after Christmas, a prospect that is great for TV viewing but not ideal for anyone planning to travel from any significant distance to the bowl site unless staying at home on the 25th is not a family tradition. Those December 26th bowls are Quick Lane in Detroit and Guarantee Rate in Phoenix.

Reading the tea leaves based on HTP's projections, likely in the mix for Northwestern if we win out, would be the Las Vegas Bowl in Las Vegas on the 23rd, Pinstripe in NYC on the 28th, or Music City in Nashville on the 30th. Accordingly, Nashville looks as close as Northwestern could expect to get to be playing in a New Year's Day Bowl.

Given the above, feel free to share your preferences with Scenario One being no further wins but qualifying under the APR exception with the added possibility of landing us in an at large bowl;

Scenario Two with one more win taking us to Detroit or Phoenix;

and Scenario Three with two more wins opening up Las Vegas, New York, and Nashville as our bowl destinations.

WR’s coverage this weekend

FYI, I’m going to be out of town this weekend, so @mshelton33 will be watching the store. I’m heading down to Mizzou to visit my son and watch the Tigers play Tennessee. (I’m 0-2 vs. the Vols with the Cats, so hopefully I will watch them get beat on Saturday.)

On Friday night, Matt will be at the hoop game. Then he’s heading up to Madison for the football game on Saturday (it’s his first trip to Camp Randall). @mikefitz77 will handle editing responsibilities.

So I’m leaving the kids at home by themselves for the weekend. NO PARTIES ALLOWED. I marked the levels of all the liquor bottles.

Senior Day

I am almost always there and make every effort to get there early so as to be there for the ceremony...stands are almost empty and I always feel bad....usually occurs about 1/2 hour b4 the game and the kid walks out with parent(s) , small round of applause from I guess mostly relatives. I dont know why but in my head I am thinking they did something at half time last year? anyone remember? Anyway 1. If any group of seniors deserves to have a full house and a huge show of appreciation it is this group. 2. I doubt people are going to change their habits so maybe they can do a video board half time something or other? I got nothing , any ideas? 3. Does anyone know what they have planned for the Senior Day next Saturday? 4. Do we know which seniors will be recognized?

One thing that concerns me...

NU's first half was damn near perfect, but why did NU go scoreless in the second half?

Did Wisconsin make great defensive adjustments, did NU just get sloppy on offense, did a key injury happen, or did we just go into a shell at the start of the 3rd quarter?

Not to be a Debbie downer, but those are reasons to believe that NU can still be stonewalled.

Game thread for Northwestern vs. Wisconsin

Northwestern (4-5, 2-4 Big Ten) is on the road at Wisconsin (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) today. The clock at Camp Randall projects a 2:35 kick and the game will air on Fox Sports 1.

The Badgers are reeling coming into this one 1-3 in their last four. All eyes will be on the Wildcats as quarterback Ben Bryant was designated a game time decision and could make his first start since Penn State on Sept. 30

One little observation on yesterday’s game: the officiating

When refs blow a call, or are perceived to have blown a call, boards like this light up. The Cats were fortunate yesterday to draw Jerry McGinn and his crew. To me, he is all the best a ref brings to the field: even tempered, crisp in execution, consistent, and always in position. It is a real pleasure to watch him and his crew work a game, and yesterday’s was no exception.
