It was hot. I'd like to be optimistic that he had a cramping problem that could have gotten worse had he stayed on the field.
I've watched Fitz his whole career and he has often been conservative in Non conference games. He is not going to risk one of his best race horses trying to play what to him is a little bit of a scrimmage. A lot of years we have seen big improvements from game one to game five.

I believe it was the conference's plan rather than Northwestern"s to move some of the conference games up to the opening of the season.
