OT: NL will use DH for EVER :(

Disclosure: Many years ago while attending NU, I worked briefly - in a laughably minor capacity of charting pitches - for one of the Chicago MLB teams. No particular rooting interest for either now, however.

Why is there need for such sniping at each team from the other's fans? Both Cubs and Sox can be successful; not a zero-sum matter. Being a fan of one doesn't mean having to hurl childish and deprecating barbs, as they play in different leagues.

Wouldn't it be great for the city, and the game itself, to have a 21st century "El Series" with both teams competing for a World Series crown?

You must not be from Chicago. Sox fans despise the Cubs. Knowledgeable cub fans, free and far between, dislike or simply code to ignore the existence of, the Sox. Most Cubs fans have no idea a game is played at wrigley and go for drinks and babes - so they also probably don’t even know the Sox or MLB exist.

It is has it has always been and, like the 100+ years of losing on the north side, how it shall be again. :)

Not sure I’d call some of the folks you described as fans, but they do give Sox fans a good motivation for the hatred. I used to hate the Sox, but my Sox fan friends were so gracious after the the World Series win, I now wish the Sox all my best.

Cubs fans could care less about the sox and most go to Wrigley to watch an good game in a beautiful ballpark. Sox fans on the other hand go to get drunk and physically attack players and umpires. Oh and blow things up forcing forfeiture of a game.

There's never been a fight in the Wrigley bleachers. Never once. Every single "fan" in Wrigley Field has eyeballs all over the field and not their beer. You nailed it.

And what "good games" are you talking about? The Cubs have lost 12 games in a row (after having an 11 game skid earlier this year already) and have been outscored 101-43 during that stretch. That's an average score of about 9-4. HORRIFIC. They've also lost 14 out of 15 and 20 of 23 games.

They are hilariously pathetic. Remember when you said Bryant was gonna lead the Cubs to another championship? Ha!

Oh, and it's "couldn't" care less.

Ah, more lies. I never commented on Bryant, period. Wow, you don't or choose not to remember the attacks by sox "fans" on visiting players and umpires. To bad you can't at least show some honesty.

Ok willy, I’ll play. I’ll see your umpire attackers and visiting coaches, I raise you cheaters and wife beaters. :)

How about you first address the fact that you called me a liar when I said that you said KB would lead the Cubs to another championship and other posters followed it up with proof?
Oh gee, guess I just forgot. Hey you do realize that it's still quite possible for Bryant to do just that, right?

Don’t tell corbi, but liam looking pretty solid lately…

One more bat to add :)

Magic number: 27

Have to admit that I’m not high on Sox going far in post season. But they have the horses to make a run. If bullpen gets out of the funk and guys stay healthy - TA, LuBob, Eloy, Abreu plus Moncada, Grandal, Vaughan - that’s a solid seven.

Lynn, Gio, Rodon - solid three with Cease looking better every turn and Lopez making a case.

Just need the bullpen to get right. I like flipping the script w Kimbrel and Liam for a minute. Maybe more Crochet.

The bullpen will have a fantastic September into October. Mark my words. Had some juju stuff to sort out. They're going to be a strength in the postseason

@chicagocatfan24 whats the thought on Vaughan? He was a sure thing instant O out of college but the quick rise to the show…wonder if it set him back? Or maybe not so much the sure thing? Or, perhaps like LuBob at the park no of the season last year, he hit a wall and just needs an off-season to rest and restart?

I’m wondering if he is the answer in the OF next year or do the Sox need to seek another FA.

And will Cesar stick at 2B? Is Burger even a realistic option? Or FA there too?

Vaughn is going to be a star hitter. He was murdering the ball May through the end of August. He will be fine. Hit a rookie wall but he'll be good. Get him some rest and clear his head for playoffs.

Cesar has a cheap team option next year they'll pick up because he's quality depth but I would imagine they'll look for a stud 2B or RF in free agency this offseason but I'm not even worrying or thinking about that right now. All about October. Everyone will be healthy and they can win it all.

LOL. Put down the crack pipe.

What part are you objecting to? Vaughn is a great prospect. Cesar is cheap and serviceable. I think the bullpen and Manager will likely torpedo a championship, but it’s baseball and anything can happen. Who exactly would be a prohibitive favorite to beat them in a 7 game series? Me thinks you are pulling a Willy here and looking at this through tinted Blue glasses.

I am still pissed at the trade for Kimbrel. You got my boy Madrigal who is quite a bit better than your Boy Hoerner and the Sox are going to kick themselves for throwing in Heuer who is better than Kimbrel.

I know more about baseball than you do by 1 billion

Good for you. It’s clear your views are being blinded by your bias for the team. Any team that makes the playoffs has a chance at winning the World Series but an objective observer looking at how the White Sox are playing now would say the odds of an an early exit are much higher than the odds for a World Series title. Take off the rose colored glasses.

That they can win it all. The Sox do not have a team capable of winning a World Series this year unless the only point he was making that any team in the playoffs by default has a chance.

You're awfully angry and bitter, corbi. Being a Cubs and Bears fan will do that to you, but there's nothing crack-smokey about saying the White Sox can win it all. He didn't say they were the favorite or that he was predicting it...just that they can win it all. And it must not be all that cracky-smokey because Vegas says that the White Sox have the third best odds to win it (along with the Astros and Brewers) behind the Dodgers and Rays.

Unless you think it's all crack-smokey to say the Yanks or Giants or Astros or Brewers can win it all this year either. That would be silly, but I've seen silly around these boards from time to time. It's exciting that a lot of teams have a legitimate shot at being World Series champs. Enjoy it. ;)

Remember the bet I made with you on Madrigal vs. Hoerner? I made that just for the sake of making it and flat out said I don't like Madrigal all that much. you can go look. I am objective about the White Sox

They have not had a fully healthy lineup for one single game this year. Literally not one. Closest they had was about 2 weeks ago and it was still missing Engel. I will judge this team when fully healthy which should be starting this week. Not when Eloy, Madrigal, Robert (a star already) and Grandal were all out at once. Easy for any team to look bad when Garcia, Mendick, Billy Hamilton and Zavala are all in the lineup at once which has happened plenty this year

And on Vaughn: I said he's going to be a star hitter and I'm not the only person who thinks that. He was drafted 3rd overall as a bat first 1B and that doesn't happen very often at all. Tracy Smith told me him and Bryant are the two best hitters he's ever seen in college. His May through August supports that. Yeah, he has hit a wall but after getting his feet wet in April, he had a 141 wRC+ in 325 PAs from 5/1 through 8/31. That's the meat of a season. He was at 120 wRC+ on the entire before his recent face plant. Not too bad for a 23 year old rookie who lost an entire development year and has never played above A ball and had to learn 2 brand new positions on the fly

Angry? You wish. Unlike Sox fans, I don’t hate the team on the other side of town. In fact I go to many more Sox games than I do Cubs games because of my sons and enjoy the experience. That makes me pretty objective. You guys are so hard up for a winner that you are letting a little taste of success blind you. This team is not World Series caliber. Maybe next year with a few additions but to think you have a legitimate chance this year is just naive.

Vaughan is 23, missed 2020, and spent 2019 in rookie/A ball. Now he is holding his own against ML pitching. I am most impressed by 39 BB in 446 PAs. He is T47th in exit velocity among all ML hitters (78th percentile).

He is going to hit. A lot.

I love Vaughan. Would have preferred the Cubs got him straight up for Kimbrel than the trade they made. Future All Star at first base.

They absolutely have a team CAPABLE of winning the WS. Do I think they will this year? I do not, but I don’t expect them to be an easy out either. Sorry, but EVERY team has a weakness. Hell, the Dodgers have the best talent in the game and their run in the playoffs this year could last 1 day!

As far as hate for the Cubs or bias, that just isn’t true. I personally just said I don’t like the Kimbrel trade. If speaking my opinion that Theo/Jed completely botched what should have been a Golden run of legitimate challenges for titles is being a hater, guilty as charged.

You just told a guy who literally does this for a living that he needs to put the crack pipe away! There wasn’t even a hint of a controversial statement in his post. I couldn’t even determine what you were objecting to. That sure hints of bias to me.

Yeah, I can totally tell by your demeanor on these boards that you're totally not angry...like all the time.

I love the Cubs. I love the Sox. I love Chicago. I love that you go to games with your sons. I love what actual baseball people say about baseball as opposed to self-proclaimed experts. I know it totally bums you out, but actual baseball people think that the Sox are World Series capable. Not destined. Not favorites. Capable. But you go to games with your sons, so you know better...about which park has better nachos, not about baseball.

LOL, Ok. I have opinions and am not afraid to express them so apparently that makes me “angry” in your eyes, at least when those opinions don’t reconcile with yours. Where I grew up, having opinions doesn’t make you angry, it makes you Italian American. If you don’t like it, that’s too bad for you. I suggest you stop reading or alternatively you can get lost! Either way, fine by me.

First of all I never accused you of a Cubs bias. That puts you in the minority of Sox fans. The crack pipe comment was in relation to his comment about the Sox winning it all. Any team that is in the playoffs by default has a chance of winning it all but in my opinion anybody looking at this team that is playing right now and concludes they are one of the favorites or even has an average chance of winning it all is looking at it from a biased perspective. I’ve said from the beginning of the year that the Sox don’t Have the starting pitching to compete with the best teams in the playoffs and i’ve Seen nothing so far this year that makes me think otherwise. I think there is a better chance they get bounced first round than they have of winning it all. We may be debating semantics at this point because it sounds you are also skeptical of their chances.
