Harry Potter as Offensive Coordinator.

Starting way back with Kevin Wilson and Bill Walsh and the spread/motion wizardry offenses there was a proliferation of young magical offensive coordinators and it was all about the scheme....slight of hand,,,,motion left, motion right....stand up sit down.....but defenses have caught up with this stuff with more dbs and other defensive schemes as well as just understanding them better...and now it is back to can my man on the offensive line beat your man on the defensive line....or can my wide receiver get open against your db and my oline protect the qb......it is back to the basics....and all the fancy stuff just is not sufficient if you cant win the line of scrimmage.....The Cats and the Bears are relearning this....while both have Harry Potter OCs that wave their wands that are really just sticks.

Running back cupboard is bare?

Other than 2018 we signed one back per class and if I remember correctly Evan Hull was a throw in at the end cuz we had not signed anyone. Is it true that we signed Kamalofe to be a db originally? We lost Anderson and Bowers when it became apparent that Porter was going to get most of the carries...Why have we struggled to fill this position room. Is this normal to only recruit one back per class? if not have we just missed on signing backs ? as a position are they now like qbs where high schools only have one? so there is a limited supply? But the chances of Cam Porter staying healthy for the rest of the year????
2018 we signed Drake Anderson and Isiah Bowers
2019 Evan Hull as a 2 star....and I think late as well
2020 Cam Porter
2021 Anthony Tyus as a 4 star
2022 Joseph Himon
2023 NO running backs signed ....can that be true? Kamalofe is listed as a db and 2 stars.
2024 Dashun Reeder
others on the roster
Grissam Anderson no idea,,says he played for Duke in 21 ?????
Jake Arthurs...who I believe was a walk-on ?????
Albert Kunnickis III listed as a sophomore ...another walk on?

Where we stand post-Washington debacle

We “just” need to get to 6-6 and Detroit with this schedule after last year’s work. I’m not giving up on that yet but also realize we have zero margin for error now. Have to win the home games at the lake and at Maryland and at Purdue. Possible? Yes. Difficult? Hell yes. But if Cam comes back and Jack feels more comfortable after the bye we’ve at least got a chance.
We've pretty much won the ones we came in expecting to and vice versa. But yes, the offense needs to improve a whole hell of a lot.

Fortunately the defense is pretty damn capable - our D line is LEGIT - so an okay offense will win some games.

Looking at Braun's puzzling decision to kick a FG in the third quarter

Terrible decision to kick the field goal.
Lou said it perfectly. "You gotta go for it there, no? You might never be anywhere close to the goal line again."
Exactly. The offense was flailing and this was a great chance to get within one TD.
You have to assume Washington will probably score more points.
YOU HAVE TO GO FOR IT.
But don't be a jackass, run the football straight ahead until you score.
Call timeout, fire up the troops and punch it in - like Fitz would have done.

The play-calling on the subsequent "first and goal from the 1" was even more horrifying.
If you can't score down there, forfeit.

Where we stand post-Washington debacle

That is what I was hoping for, a dynamic OC being hired, when Fitz was canned. A dynamic system that would attract top recruits, knowing they can thrive in a high powered offense. All I know is that our starting qbs so far aren't cutting so far. I hope Lausch gets better as time goes on. I am sure he will to some extent, but we can't go back to 2019 and expect good recruiting classes. Hopefully we can get 100% healthy with the bye. A win vs Indiana and/or Maryland will go a long way to build Lausch's confidence if he has all his weapons and line around him. Not bowling this season is going to set the program back a bit. I guess a lot of patience is in order, as always.

Why I spoke out on LinkedIn and will continue speaking out (RIP Caleb 😢)

We may never fully understand human nature but man I hope we are moving forward....It seems that a highly competitive climb to the top society/culture we live in makes it hard to except and promote everyone. But telling the truth and standing up, being visible, certainly seems to be an important factor in moving forward. Hope you keep telling your story...I am sure there are organizations on NU campus that would be interested to hear your story and have you involved. As a teacher for 35 years it did my heart good when our rather small conservative town allowed the schools to have LBTGQ+ organizations that provided support, visibility and recognition for those kids and nothing left me feeling emptier than when there was a suicide. I hope you find a place where you can help make a difference ....A value is only a value if you take action... I also hope that both the schools that I root for NU and LU provide the support and acceptance these kids, still trying to find their way need....

Where we stand post-Washington debacle

Lausch was too inconsistent and randomly inaccurate to put in an average or better performance, but he did do a lot of things to be built on: he continues to be a good decision maker, a good runner, and a competitor. He delivered some good, catchable balls into tight coverage. It was something to build on for a young player.

The same can’t be said for senior, multi-year starter TEs and WRa who couldn’t catch the ball all game, lines that can’t block, RBs who can’t hold onto the ball, etc. I think everybody obviously agrees the QB needs to be better along with the rest of the offense, but he was far from the worst offender. He was a heck of a lot better than, say, Michigan’s QB on Saturday.
Lausch kind of looks like a guy who has played less football than most other guys that come into D1 programs, which he almost certainly is.

Just some occasional inaccuracy and maybe even a few cases where the ball came out a little wobbly.

Despite the relative inexperience, Lausch generally seems to have a pretty good pocket presence. He doesn’t scatter at the first since of pressure, which was a significant problem with the quarterback who chose to transfer this offseason, though less with Wright. But Lausch doesn’t put the ball in danger like Wright did, especially against Duke.

You'll have to wait for a couple of losses where everything else is OK and for Lausch to still struggle for some of the people here to give up (Like Wright in the Duke game - any mediocre P4 QB wins that game). Until then, we will get excuses
I don't think anybody is giving Lausch a passing grade, but it's also pretty damn dumb football analysis to just say "offense struggled, probably just the OC and the QB." Like Braun said, Jack needs to play better.

Why I spoke out on LinkedIn and will continue speaking out (RIP Caleb 😢)

I found out that Caleb killed himself because he was gay.

Being gay doesn't make you kill yourself.

The factual way to say that (assuming you have your facts right) is that Caleb was gay and he killed himself while attending Northwestern.

Anything beyond that seems like pure speculation, which is not appropriate, especially publicly. How does that honor your "friend?"
