+/- for the Ordination in Oregon

This makes some sense. The opposing team's scouting report likely says, "Clayton can't shoot. Defender should leave him for double teams and rotational help." If Clayton has an early, open shot, he should take it. If he happens to make it, then he creates a problem for the defense which now thinks it has to guard him for the rest of the game. If not, oh well. Generally worth the risk. Clayton did not shoot much more after that initial shot which makes me think it was a defined strategy rather than "selfish" as you so objectively called it.
IMO this gets to the concept of what is a "good shot". Every single player needs to take good shots. Any player that passes on a good shot needs to be benched. Now, what is a good shot for Michael Jordan is not the same as for Dennis Rodman. Just like what is a good shot for Berry is not necessarily a good shot for Clayton. Take Hunger as an example, if it were me, by now, a good 3 pointer for him would be with his feet completely set, with time somewhat comparable to a free throw. No shooting in the flow of the offense, coming off movement, plenty of evidence that's not a good shot for him.

I am still to figure out what is a good shot for Clayton.

Thursday morning discussion fodder

Confidently taking wide open shots is a good start.
I remember when he took his first shots last year commenting he looked confident and how that was promising.

Now, I just can't help thinking about Hunger. He also looked confident. Like many here I just expected the shots to eventually go in. Much larger sample size, and the shots continue to not go in. To the point he went from hope of a big summer leap and starter next year to solidly stapled to the bench.

Kafka not getting the Saints hc job

Would have to be an OC for a team that wants him to call an offense first. Being attached to Daboll won't be it. The Eagles OC position is like a HC factory - an owner who wants to win, a highly competent GM to keep the talent there, and a HC who doesn't call plays. Kafka would be better off in Philly or Detroit or somewhere like there, or a situation similar to Washington or Houston where a Defensive guy is the HC.

Honest goals

a freshman may struggle because of a jump up in class versus high school ball, but a fan can still determine if their is potential. It’s just not going to happen with Clayton. I think everyone just assumed a transfer was imminent after this season, and that would have been the cats best case scenario. The bar is SO low, that any performance not a disaster is considered decent.
Did you watch Big Matt his first year?

Honest goals

No one answers that question negatively as a freshman.

Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Oregon

Based on the limited sample size, Keenan is a better scorer and scoring threat than Hunger. Maybe coach realizes how badly he needs to replace that missing 31 points a game? I think Keenan is also faster than Hunger and can jump a lot higher a lot faster (because he has no body mass, a defensive liability for a big, as we've seen), and may have better shot blocking numbers, I dunno.
It happens commonly in sports. A guy gets injured, another guy gets to play, they realize he is better than the injured guy. That’s it.

Jack Lausch - NU Diamond Thread

Just responding to your post. If he is supposedly a baseball draft prospect for 2025, wouldn't that happen this summer? And if he is drafted (and signed), wouldn't that remove him as a QB backup for the fall?

The second part is how is he considered as a top draft prospect for this year since he has not even played in a couple years? Seems early to see him as such a prospect. Maybe for 2026 but for 2025?
