FOOTBALL Interview with new grad transfer CB Fred Davis II

I got a chance to talk to new Northwestern grad transfer CB Fred Davis II today. I will write a story soon, but here are some notes to tide you over in the meantime....

- This went down fast. He was all set to commit to Mizzou over the weekend when Coach Hicks called his agent on Sunday. On Monday, he was on campus for a visit and on Wednesday he was officially a Cat. NU had been in touch with him in December, when he entered the portal, but there was a question with grades that had to get cleared up.

- He spent three years at Clemson. He played a lot as a true freshman in 2020 but then tore all the ligaments in his ankle his second year in 2021. He thinks that affected him for two years. He transferred to UCF in 2023 but redshirted because of a shuffling of the coaching staff. Ironically, his degree is from UCF. He played at Jax State last year. PFF likes him, ranking him 154th, just 13 spots and less than a rating point behind Theran Johnson. He said that he didn't have any passes thrown his way for "six or seven games" this year and gave up just 142 yards passing all season.

- He chose NU over Mizzou, Virginia and West Virginia (where his JSU coach, Rich Rodriguez, is now the head man). He likes NU's coaching staff and their track record developing cornerbacks, and he mentioned Greg Newsome.

- We didn't discuss dollar amounts but I asked about NU's NIL offer. He said they were "verrrrry competitive."

- As I tweeted, it was a little too late to get Davis in for winter quarter, but he will enroll in the spring. He said he will take part in nine spring practices, after spring break.

SDSU OG transfers to NU

Could always use another OL. For WR hopefully Covey continues to be strong. Eligon could be developing. And maybe Wright turns out to be a gifted receiver who was trying to play QB all these years b
Hope is not a strategy... but that's all we have at the moment for the WR room. We only have one "proven" WR. Griffin Wilde, on the roster, and he's only proven at the FCS level.

MSU next Sunday is a must win

Get the win vs msu hopefully. Anybody see what Michigan is doing? They have beaten like 4 ranked teams. And vlad the fla atl center we beat in tournament is shooting like 80% 26 points game with all sorts of other stats. Um has 2 centers now that might finish season top b10 players of year. Wow!!
Lot of good teams in the Big Ten
