First half thread for the Big Ten title game

Fitz & McCall are making a big mistake if they think the best way to win is a Southside streetfight - running a more traditional/old school scheme and trying to be more physical (winning the 1-on-1 battles).

The dOSU D is a talented, but undisciplined.

Got to spread them out and make them guess, moving side to side.

And McCall can't have Thorson just sitting back in the pocket.

He's got to start using his legs and put pressure on the dOSU D, both on runs and to set up the pass (buy his receivers more time).

As for the D, why the heck are they playing such a soft zone?

dOSU receivers are way too open by the time Haskins makes his throw (NU defenders also need to stop falling down when they chase Haskins).

Can't win like this. Just can't turn it over.

Ohio State gets good everything including kickers. Could you imagine us kicking a 43 yard FG?

If we're going to consistently compete for championships, Fitz needs to accept that special teams matter.

@Katatonic
I don’t think we have the playmakers, offensively to play like you describe. That said, they need to try something . (Doesn’t help that the first try was that deep ball to Nagel...)

Defensively, NU is executing its game plan — lots of opponent first downs, few opponent touchdowns.

Our kickers have been hurt all season. Kuhbander hit the extra point and is capable from 43 if healthy.

Yeah, we're getting what we want defensively. If we can bring this to 1 score and get to the half, this is a good first half for us.

@NUCat320

That's why McCall needs to move the pocket, or in lieu of that, Thorson needs to start using his legs to evade the rush and buy time for his receivers.

These pass plays are taking too long to develop and it's not like NU receivers have been getting open anyways on those down the field routes.

This is exactly like the 2nd half of the UM loss and the 1st 3 Q of the M00N game.

Thorson needs to play like Persa, or even Siemian (the little that McCoy let him) if the 'Cats are to have a chance (the thing is, Thorson really hasn't shown the ability to do that).

The D is keeping the 'Cats in the game, but dOSU will continue to score and the D will start tiring out.

Haskins is not a running QB, and yet, he has kept drives alive using his legs to escape the pass rush, allowing him time to find an open receiver.

This looks like so many of our games this year, but we do not have the capability to dig out of a hole against OSU.
