Honest goals

Last year we had
Nicholson, Barnhizer, Langborg, Berry, Buie
the bench was Hunger, Preston and Martinelli
Mullins only played 98 minutes, Clayton played 199 minutes, Blake Smith played 154 minutes.

This year we had
Nicholson, Barnhizer, Berry, Leach, Martinelli
the bench was Hunger, Fitzmorris, Ciaravino, Mullins and Windham

In other words, last year we had 3 centers, just like we do this year.
Martinelli was the entire bench last year.

Roster-wise we traded Buie and Langborg for Leach, Windham and Ciaravino.
We also traded Martinelli for a better version of Martinelli, and Barnhizer and Berry for worse versions of themselves (due to injury).
What’s the point?

Worst loss since ?

When you consider Nebraska was missing their starting center, it definitely hurts.
To me, Nebraska came into Welsh-Ryan with 2 good players and a bench of bench guys.
Juwan Gary and Brice Williams are both good players.
The rest are not.
And they beat us.
Backup UNL centers Morgan and Meah - 18 points. Starting NU center Nicholson and backup Fitz - 8 points.

Already discussed Windham and Clayton combined zero.

36% vs. their 44% shooting.

That about does it.

If you are Martinelli, do you stick around for next year or hit the portal?

Don’t see much else on the current roster that should demand significant NIL $$ so seems like we should be able to retain Martinelli and add 2-3 portal pieces if we are serious about being a B10 level athletic program.

Find the right portal pieces and no reason we have to be “bad” next season

I also don’t think he would be the main guy at most other schools if he was looking to move up to a more sure tourney team

It's a question I've been thinking about a lot the last few weeks.

I suspect it depends on how he feels about Mullins, KJ, and Angelo by the end of the season. He's not going to be happy with this year's results, and he likely realizes that next year's team won't be as good as this year's team could have been, so if he stays he probably won't sniff the tourney again.

But by all accounts he has a really strong relationship with Collins and maybe that will be enough.
It is all family and his family is here both in teammates and he has a lot of them attending every game, Pretty hard to do other places and he would be the guy next year whereas this year he was the sidekick

Penn State up 23 POINTS on Nebraska at halftime. Nebraska just not that good...we really barfed that game away it was absurd to lose that lead even with our injuries.

New attempt to attract recruits down south - no state income taxes on NIL earnings for college athletes proposed

Wonder if this could end up like professional sports where states argue if you are playing games in our state than that income is earned and therefore taxable in that state. I would think it is easy to argue that the NIL is not simply related to exposure in the state of residence.

B1G/SEC Bullies

Those leagues are professional leagues where the players are professionals paid by the teams, whereas the Big Ten and SEC are conferences of SCHOOLS with teams made up of students who have to go to class and are paid for their name, image, and likeness by third-party entities not funded by the schools.
You sure about that. Seriously, the true student-athlete term has been gone for years
