I'm courtside at Wintrust Arena. This place is a palace. It's mostly glass and steel on the outside, and inside everything is gleaming. It holds about 10,000, but the second deck is petty high up there. They have all the boxes on one side, on the second deck. This place has almost a hotel feel, down to the media room that featured a pretty fancy meal in hotel-quality food warmers, padded seats, a huge TV, etc. It's a far cry from Allstate Arena, that's for sure.

I think we have more NU fans than DePaul fans in the stands today. Great to see.

Both teams getting good shots and shooting well early -- NU 57.1%, DePaul 62.5% -- and it's 11-9 DePaul at the under-16 timeout.

Gaines has got to learn to keep his head up and look to pass once in a while. Every time he gets the ball, he seems to drive straight to the basket. He turned it over on his last two possessions and the last one earned him a charging call after he drove out-of-control into the lane. He's just a freshman, but I think Collins and his teammates are getting a little frustrated with him.

I know DePaul is a lower-tier Big East team, but I've been impressed with their athleticism. They are getting inside and have 10 points in the paint. They are shooting 50 percent, and that NU defense that has looked so good since the Texas Tech game is really getting tested today.

I think NU may be in for a dogfight.

I'm so disappointed by that first half. We're supposed to believe the turned it around narrative. Double-digit turnovers AND fouls? Outrebounded, outassisted, outhustled, outshot.

Have to be better. Just have to be in the second half.
